3913 is this an early model?

Since this has different markings on the frame and slide from what I'm use to seeing I ask if this is an early pistol? Notice there are no dots drilled on the frame. Would S&W standard catalog tell me about this? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't call it an early one. Early ones will have flash chromed hammers and triggers, and stamped in mfg. marking rather than laser etched.

The numbers listed should be the first number in the year, so I would think it would be 1992

The smaller characters on the slide threw me. They went smaller on the characters and stamped the slides at the end of production (1997) and deleted the dot, I guess. ? Thanks for the serial number info. The serial list shows that the other pistol TDN2788 I have is from 1988. I thought first production of the 3913 was 1990. ?

Called S&W for serial numbers

It's very late production. You can tell by the etched serial number on the frame, the molded/black trigger (I'll bet hammer is black as well), the slide stop and safety (early ones were much lower profile for carry).

Here are my two 3913 pistols (I also have a Tactical pre-rail). The one on the bottom was shipped from the factory in 1992, note the hard chromed trigger and hammer as well as the low profile slide stop and safety. The one on top was shipped from the factory in 1996. I have factory letters for both.

I think the etched numbering on the frame came along in around 1998.

3913 VHN732X 2002 smaller S&W chars on slide no red paint on dots
3913 BJM4013 2008 smaller S&W chars on slide & no safety dots


The pistol I was curious about was made in 2008.

All the 3953's I bought with TYAXXXX are 1992 production.
