Everything old is new again. The Springfield XDE is a compact pistol with DA/SA, like the S&W 3913 used to be. Many people claim the 3913 is the best concealed carry pistol ever.

I like DA/SA in a concealed gun for safety reasons. I've had light striker-fired triggers go off when I wasn't ready to fire (pointed down range, just not quite ready to fire), and it's not that I don't trust or like striker fired triggers, I would just prefer a revolver or DA/SA trigger in a gun that's stuck in my waistband or pocket.

So does anybody have any insight into the 3913 vs. the XDE? Used 3913s that I've seen are probably more expensive than the MSRP of the XDE will be.

From what I have been reading, Springfield has come up with a new XD that is what the 3913 and the 5906 have in terms of hammer and DA/SA hammer cocked with safety on similar to a 1911 and carried in that mode. It has a de-cocker, which I like and the barrel is an inch shorter shy of the 4 inch barrel. It is slim and trigger reset and sights are great right out of the box. I have an XD-40 and I may be trading that in for the XDE in the 9MM. They are expanding their calibers in the near future in the XDE.

I know nothing about the XD. However I did relamp and still carry my 3913.
That being said, I have a Shield. Just more comfortable with the 3913 on my belt or a revolver in a pocket.

Many lesser guns get compared to the 3913. None match it, let alone surpass it. From any manufacturer.

The ONLY GUN which matches the 3913s reliability, accuracy, durability, asthetics and ease of carry and concealment is the 3914. Regards 18DAI

Never was a finer discreet carry 9mm pistol!

Watching the video on the XDE the SA trigger pull looks like it has a longer reset with more than a fair amount of take up in it too . Sure as heck isn't as nice is my p320 reset or my old 669 SA pull and at a only an 1oz more weight in all metal ! Just don't see where the XDE fills any gaps other than for some current XD owners . .

The CS9 is closer to the Shield in size, but the 3913 gets all the love. Especially the Ladysmith, that's the one I'd get if I ever find one. The LGS had one a few months ago, I doubt they still do. They didn't want to sell it bad enough, at the time.

Has to be external hammer, DA/SA in .45 for me. I have carried my CS 45 for over 20 years.

True Love ; for a "manly man" is the 3913/14 NL.....since 1991/92!!!!! Wow 25years!!

The Springfield...... if the price is right or a used one comes along cheap...... might make a great "Truck Gun"!!!! :D

Here are my three 3913 pistols. I reduced my collection from four to three a several years ago. The one I sold was bit dinged up with more internal wear. The 3913 TSW without rail is the jewel of the group. It handles and shoots great.

Wow, who says that the 39xx in any series is the best carry pistol ever?

That would be the 40xx series once you shoot a Hi Power every other 9 pales in comparison. Sorry to rain on your 9 mm 3rd gen love fest but that gun just ain't it. If I made a list of the best 9mms doubt it would be in the top 5. Shoot a PC40 in wheel and semi auto config and then revisit this thread, LOL.
