So I got a great looking 3914 that looked almost new. I slapped some hogue rubber grips and feel I have a perfect conceal carry pistol.

In working the safety/decocker, I found that the safety will not stay down like it does on my other 3rd gens. Is this a "feature" or did someone "upgrade" this piece. I know the only true safety is between my ears, but I prefer my guns to work like they were supposed to. What are my options in getting the safety function back?

My 4566 is the same, spring-loaded to "off." It was a "feature" for some PDs. I like it wish my 6906 were the same. I'm not a fan of external safeties on DA/SA guns.

I don't know much about the 3914 series, and it may have been a limited run with this feature--or it could have been modified afterwards.

If it springs right back to 'off', it's a decocker only. That would be a huge plus for me, I'd love to have one like that.
Others more knowledgeable will know if it was modified, or if S&W made a run of them for some agency.
My 3914 I let slip away is one of my only gun selling regrets....

Nice gun. The SCSW doesn't list a decocker only version, but that doesn't mean that S&W didn't make them for an agency that way. It might be worth calling S&W customer service and asking them.

I believe S&W made 3914's with this feature for the NYPD. It also could have been factory modified for a previous owner. A call to S&W with the serial # could likely determine if it left the factory that way.

Hmmm. I dunno what ill do. My preference is to have the safety work, but I don't know if I care enough to act.
