I recently got into 3rd gens. Picked myself up a 5906, then a 6906, and finally a 3913TSW. I purchased Trijicon night sights for the former, but I want some fibers for the 3913. The trouble is it seems like Trijicon is the only game in town for new production sights for these models.

The 3913 uses Novak Lomount sights, but I don't know how standardized they are. Anyone know of a manufacturer producing fiber optic sights for them, or perhaps sights intended for another model that will fit the dovetails and still allow me to put the shooty part where I want it on the target?

SFAIK, (I asked once upon a time) if the S&W rear sights are Novaks. The answer-from Novak-was that they weren't. I guess you could call them tribute sights. Having said that, the 1999 S&W parts lists show the rear sight as a Novak. Possibly they started out buying Novaks and then found another source for the tribute sight. ADDED: the front and rear factory night sights are different height than the standard sights.

The standard front sight listed is 109070000. The same front sight was also used on the 69XX series pistols, but apparently no others. I expect the dovetail is the same on all the S&W 4 digit guns, but the sight heights will be different.

That said, you might call Novak and ask them about sight availability. Otherwise, Trijicon may well be the only game in town. Trijicon will relamp their sights for reasonable fee if the tritium has faded.

You might want to be aware that fiber optic sights on semis sometimes break the insert and it disappears. I used to see this with some regularity when I was shooting competition. If you might be using the piece for defensive purposes, suddenly wondering where your front sight is in the middle of festivities might not be a good thing.

My 3913 has a rear sight clearly marked as Novak. Thinking about getting to a nightsight replacement, but even the Novaks are much higher than this one.

Attached is a picture of a 5906 slide with a rear sight that is clearly marked “Novak”. The bottom of the dovetail only measures about .430. A Novak would measure .495. Novak made S&W sights for a time, and these are marked as Novak manufacture. They are S&W cut, not Novak.D0B39293-435B-4742-BD87-5FCD8407041D.jpg

Dawson Precision makes f/o sights that fit all of the 9mm size 3rd gen guns. For your 3913 you'll want the .125 x .125 front. These bases are oversized in order to fit a variety of S&W guns and will require careful fitting. You cannot just beat the sight into the dovetail cut as doing so will deform the sight at best and at worse outright break.

Sights, for S&W 5906, Front Fiber Optic, by Dawson Precision - Dawson Precision, Inc.

I have fit those sight to a number of client's guns, many paired with a modified factory rear sight where I strip out the dots and re-cut the notch to a .140 or .156 wide "U" notch.

Factory Novak with a .140 "U" notch...

Different rear sight on my CS9 but this is what the sight picture looks like in daylight with a .140 "U" notch rear paired with a f/o front...
