1. Yes-I have searched the forums and can not find what I am looking for. There is the distinct possibility that I am stupid, but there is the possibility that this general question has not been presented before.

2. Is there a decent Armorers Guide or Disassemby Procedure for 3rd Generation Autos (5906/6906/4006) availible? I do know about the AGI video-but I really am looking for a manual/paper type product. Less expensive than $75 would be good too.

3. My specific goal is I want to be able to:
-tear down some 6906s that I just got
-lightly bead blast the frame
-coat the frame with gray KG GunKote
-bead blast the slide to restore the matt finish

Any thoughts, comments, complaints, gripes, or pissin and moanin would be appreciated.

When I got my first 3rd gen pistol, I looked for printed a guide/manual of some sort along the lines of Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manuals, but found nothing.

The AGI video really does furnish a lot of good info, including some gotchas where you can get into trouble.

Here's a couple of good resources for downloadable manuals, exploded diagrams, etc:

I think I have figured out everything except how to remove the magazine release.

Anybody have a hint? Is it like a 1911?

I've never messed with a 1911, but just finished replacing my 1026 mag release with a LH one.

Assuming all the 3rd generation mag releases work the same this is actually one of the easier ones in my experience. You need a very thin pin punch (or a really strong paper clip) to push down on the plunger. The plunger is the little black (blued?) piece that sits in the second, smaller hole alongside the mag release button. While holding the plunger down well below the mag release button just unscrew the mag release button counterclockwise. If things aren't too old, or gummed up, the mag relaese button should just unscrew by hand (mine was a little older and stuck a little so I had to fashion a "spanner scrwwdriver" by grinding a center slot in an old screwdriver to clear that center post which is actually the shaft of the real mag locking/release part).

You just need to take a little care when you let off the force on the plunger so that it doesn't go flying. The plunger spring tension is what operates the mag release and the plunger, itself, is pretty damn small if you have to find it again (the voice of experience

).

Once I'd done the disassembly it was pretty obvious. The mag release button just has a milled slot in the bottom. As it screws down the spring-loaded plunger comes up into that slot to keep it from turning and backing out/off.
