Not finding a clear answer searching so I'll just ask, three questions.

1) Are shorty 40 (2000) sights the same as the 4006 series?

2) What are the differences between the various 3rd generation "novak" sights between the 5900, 6900, 4000, 4500 series? It looks like it's just the sight height but maybe they're different width also? It's funny trijicon lists several models but novaks lists only one?

3) Are there other night sight manufacturers that will work? Both trijicon and Novak have spotty availability.

Try to find a set that fit a 3913 and I think you will find, for fit and height, that they are identical to the non night sights on the first two groups of Shorty 40's with the PCS serial numbers. I have an early one and a late one out of that group. I also have a set of sights that were removed from my issued 3913, that I carried for several years on duty. The sights are identical. However, in answer to your question, the sights on the 4006 series are not all the same. You might find a meprolite sight set that will work but it may not look the same. S&W used Novak sights with Trijicon lamps for their issued pistols. Since Gen 3 guns have been discontinued for some time, the availability of replacements is difficult.

I found a deal on Meprolight a few years back and I have the same sight on a 3913, 6904 and 4013TSW.

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks guys. It looks like the main difference is the front sight height. It is definitely shorter on the shorty than on my 4006 by about .015" and matches up best with the dimensions published for the trijicon SA08 listed for the 6906/3913 etc.

Interestingly I have a 4013TSW that always shot low, and it has an unknown front night sight that is the taller variety. I never questioned it before but now it makes sense. Someone must've put it on there. It says MH5 on the side, might be a meprolight as mentioned.

All of the factory night sights are taller than the regular sights.

I have two pre-rail 4013TSWs with .204" front sights. One always shot higher than the other.

My Shorty 40 had a .235" tall front sight & it always shot low.

I swapped the problem .204" sight with the problem .235" sight & now both pistols shoot to POA.
