My friend (C&R collector ) is considering selling His model 1926 In nickel. Was shipped in July 1928. Its letterd to Hank Williams JR. A gun that was in His personal collection. It has real pearl grips with two real rubies. Letter to Hank says that it left the factory in nickel with 4 in barrel. Its nickel with 4 inch barrel. My friend thinks it was renickeled . I have no idea about this kind of stuff ( guns owned by celebrities ,etc). My friend is talking to a couple of auction houses. Any idea on value? Anything would help. Thank You.

Looks like its definitely been renickeled since it appears they got the hammer and trigger too. shame.

By "lettered" you mean you have a factory letter stating it was shipped to county star Hank Jr.? Twenty years before he was born? I'm confused, but lately I seem to stay that way a lot.

No. No. Lol. Ha ha ha! The letter is sent to Him from S&W in 2004.

Maybe he means Hank JR. got it lettered. Looks re-nickeled to me. Hank's name might add a little to the worth, but original finish would add a lot more IMHO.

I think it was Hank who got the letter, not the gun and the letter has his name on it proving he owned it.

A 4" 1926 is rare. The pearl grips are valuable. The celebrity provenance likely adds something. I would not even try to guess. Auction dealers could estimate.

As noted, when the hammer and trigger are plated it's almost a sure bet it has been refinished. S&W only did a couple new guns like that on special order.

Just establishing some documented and proven connection with Williams Jr. (or any celebrity for that matter) would probably add some value premium. It's difficult to say how much considering that it's a non-factory refinished revolver. Exactly what does the letter say? Might be a Wolf & Klar.

Yes. Was shipped to Wolf and Klar. ( in nickel with 4 inch barrel). That shipment had two identical revolvers.

Hell I bet a letter from Jinks to Williams alone would be collectable.

OK. I guess those grips were made way back then. I am afraid to ask...... Any ides on value? That's for gun and the letter . lol

I've seen quite a number of guns for sale from the "Hank Jr. Personal Collection" in the past several years.
No value added from my point of view...
The re-nickeled gun is still desirable and valuable.

Here's a question for you: What exactly is the difference between the "personal collection" and the collection?
Is the other collection impersonal?
