Wow. I can see the advertising now:

It's the perfect combination!
Less capacity than a standard M&P!
Less concealable than a standard Shield!
More expensive than both!

I guess if you want a dedicated Shield range gun, it's an improvement. However, that seems to be a pretty limited market.

I'm intrigued. When a gun is carried standard IWB (I don't know about AIWB, never carried that way), the barrel and slide length is stuffed down your pants and is largely irrelevant. As long as you can sit, a gun could have a 6" barrel and slide and it shouldn't make much difference with concealability. The big issue with IWB concealability is the length of the butt and the width of the gun. I LOVE my Shield for IWB carry, and longer slides and barrels make it easier to aim. This kinda makes me with that S&W would come out with a 4" or 4.25" barreled Shield, as long as they kept the butt length and the overall width the same. I'd but the first one I could find. I wouldn't buy this because, let's face it, the new slide and barrel are the cost of a new gun, but I would buy one directly from S&W.

Why is it that people don't see this? I want a 5" barrel on a compact frame. To me that's the perfect carry gun.

Yes, I carry a full size 1911 OWB without issue.

I agree. I put my long slide on my 40c using the ATEI Hybrid kit and when I do carry it, I use my IWB holster and the added barrel/slide length does not make any difference. I would carry it more, but I like the Shield because of its narrow width. Having a longer sight radius on the Shield would be nice, but not $465 nice...maybe if I win the lottery!
