4" 581 value

Don't see much info on the 581's LGS has one in very good condition Spegel smooth grips no box or doc's asking $500.00 seems a little high to me. Anyone have a opinion on these guns and this price I know prices here locally have been softening.

A very fine revolver the 581. Next on my list of "buy on sight" guns. These often overlooked fixed sight L-frames seem to be escalating in price the last year or so.

I currently own a 681 - the stainless cousin to the 581 and my very favorite L-frame. Shoots to point of aim and makes a great impact weapon too!

Locally, gun prices really aren't softening all that much. I would expect to pay $500 for a very good condition 581. More for ANIB. Fair price for a superb revolver IMO. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

IIRC Spegel grips are worth quite a bit more than the OEM grips. I'd consider them gravy in the deal. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

If it only has a turn line and no other wear,I would grab it.If it has holster wear,make him an offer.

That seems like a fair price to me as these 581/681s are more in demand now than when they were being produced. I paid $500 for this one a few years ago, and bought it quickly before someone else did.

As the buyer you have the right to make an offer just as the seller has the right to reject your offer, which I suspect he will do in this case.

$500.00 for a clean 581 is a fair price, and I don't see them getting any cheaper any time soon.

Makes me feel good about my like new in box nickel 581 with all docs I got for 425.00 out the door a month ago I agree they are definitely becoming harder to find and more collectible and in good to excellent condition real hard to find.

Anything over $500 is, in my opinion, too high. Well, unless it has box, papers, tools, and like new condition, but then only a little higher. They are fine Smiths and are overlooked. The prices of the 581/681 in my area are a little lower than the price you were quoted. That all being said, if I could find a 581, nickel at $475 to $500, in great condition, I would buy it.

My 681 ran me $595. Brand new in the box, papers, tools still sealed in package. 100%. I think the 581 you are looking at is a good deal. And with the Spegel grips it is a bonus as 18DAI has pointed out.
To me, the 581/681 is the best looking, best shooting revolver ever made. Second place would have to be the model 13.
