Four inch pre war .357 Magnums aren't rare by any stretch of the imagination. Finding one in high condition can be a rare circumstance. The majority of the pre war 4 inchers were shipped to the KCPD and most were rode hard and put away wet. Of course back then Registered Magnums or a Non Registered Magnum were the top of the line tool of a LEO's trade and they were used, not collected. The gun below was one that stood the test of time on duty. It was shipped December of 1938 to a hardware store in West Virginia (still waiting on letter, but Roy confirmed it) and then purchased by the LEO. I don't believe the gun was carried a lot, but some, as the right grip shows carry wear as well as the bluing having a little "high point" wear. The gun was then wrapped in an oily rag and put away for years. As the pics show, the oil soaked through the outside of holes in the test target and stained the inside. I still have research to do on this one and will update this thread accordingly.

That's a beauty, looks like is shoots pretty well too.

Beautiful RM! I'd be interested if the grips and grip adapter was original since the serial number is so high.

Chad,
Brother i don't see very many 4" RM's and that one is
gorgeous. Of course, i'm a sucker for a 4" .357 magnum
but that one takes the cake.
Thank You for sharing.

Well, whoever shot that group did a little better than I did with mine (56459-4034 8/19/38).

Another great gun, along with great photos. BTW: the rubber on that grip adapter looks very nice. All of mine have cracked over the years. Did it happen to come with any of the other paperwork?

Thanks so much for sharing - it made my evening.

Richard, It included the little caution paper and a very oil soaked 4 page .357 Magnum circular. The oil didn't ruin the circular, just kind of encapsulated it in gun oil. The pages are a little dark, but very clear and not fragile at all.

Fantastic gun, the kind we all dream of finding. Congratulations and thanks for posting.

Did all Registered Magnums come with the circular? What about pre war 38/44 Outdoorsman's?

So the brochure (I imagine the Type II Brochure with the Magna Stocks) and the white caution paper below, but not the green guarantee?

Thanks again,
