4-screw Model 29 in Nickel

There is only four guns that deserve a nickel finish one being the S&W 29/ pre 29 the other three are Colts. As we speak I am closing a deal on a 5 screw nickel in the blue pebble grain case with tools. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures I will post

truckmizer...Only five 5-screw 44 Magnums with an original nickel finish have been reported to date by collectors. Yours could be the sixth!!

I am sending a check out this morning, and paying dearly. I did not know how rare these are. I have had a passion for 4 and 5 screw 44 mags. since the late '60s and had a few unusual pieces pass through my hands. A pair of nickel consecutive numbered 4 screw no dash 29s and a 5 screw 8 3/8 bbl that Mr. Jinks would not comment on come to light from my dusty memory banks.

I have one like this I bought in 1975 for a duty pistol when I worked for the local Sheriff's Dept. It served me well. I paid at that time $247.00 for it. Now I would not sell it for 10 times that amount. I have very good memories of carrying it.

That's kind of funny that you mentioned paying $247.00 for it in 1975. About 1978 I paid somewhere around $270.00 - $280.00 for a Model 57, blued .41 Mag, 6" new. I enlisted in the Army in 1982 and before I left, asked a friend to keep it safe for me, along with some shotguns, one a Mossberg 500 12 GA under the name of Sears. He was a good friend, took great care of them, so when I got home I told him to just keep them. Over the years I kept kicking myself, especially over the Model 57, so a couple of years ago I replaced it with a new one, 4" blued for about $800.00. Of all of my Smiths, including my .500s, it is my favorite. But, I still wish I had my first one back. I sure wish I had it back. Thanks for the memories.
