I am looking to purchase a 40 cal semi auto and was wondering how the S&W and Glock compare to each other. I have owned Glocks when they first came out and haven't had any in years.I am looking for a 15 round capacity and I know the Glock has a 5.5 lb trigger pull but not sure of the S&W. Any help would be appreciated. All I own now is S&W revolvers.

Having both, and a G23 as well, I LOVE my MP40.

I don't seem to do as well with the full-size 17 or 22's I don't know why. The 19s and 23/32's are fine. The MP40 on the other hand with the small back panel for me is sweetness.

I do actually prefer the idea of metal mags.

All this said, you're a fool if you don't give serious consideration to the Springfield XD(M).

16 rounds of 40, adjustable back panel on grip, Match barrel and crisp trigger with a great reset.

Find your nearest outlet that will let you shoot these three for comparison. Make your decision from there. Don't get hung up on brands. Like the Coke vs. Pepsi Challenge of the 80's (God, I loved the 80's). Pick what works best for you and don't look back.

MP 40 owner here, have shot both. Sold the Glock. In my opinion the MP feels better with the handle/grip and shoots tighter for me. Go to a gun range and rent some pistols, shoot all of them before you buy. LOL; I've bought on impulse and then sold later. I like the MP enough, I'm going to get the compact to carry.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a range to go to but I will try and find a gun store that has different 40's and see which one fits my hand the best. I guess everyone of the guns are more accurate than I am.

The main thing I see with the M&P(as with the XDM) over the Glock is if the gun doesn't fit you well you have three different backstraps to change it. Triggers are all about the same, both offer std.5.5# and heavier 10# or more in the Glocks.

My M&P .40 is now my main match gun. It works reliably, accurately, and fits my hand like a glove. Furthermore, it has three inserts to make sure that you find a near perfect fit for you. The grip angle is also right for me instead of a Glock. My M&P has converted at least 4 former Glock owners! Yes, it is THAT good!
