So about every other shot my gun jams. I happens when the new round is going into the chamber. The striker assembly is not reseting, and then causing the jam.

Just a little more background on the gun. I took it to Impact Guns in Ogden Utah to have them do a trigger job for me. It never fired correctly again. I've taken it back 3 times, and they can't fix it.

Here is a pic of a 9 that is having the same issues.

Sorry, but an M&P needs a "trigger job" like - well, you know. . . .

In order to restore confidence in your pistol, return it to S&W and have them return it to original specs. This is not warranty work and they will charge you, however, you cannot use it now, and you certainly cannot sell it without fixing it.

Don't you just hate it when a perfectly fine working gun is turned into a really poor blunt instrument because you let someone "improve" your pistol?

If the striker isn't resetting there is a good possibility of the gun "slam firing" and going full auto on you. It's not safe in it's present condition, sounds like you need a different gunsmith preferably a M&P armorer.

Would installing an Apex trigger fix it? Might be worth trying.

OK, based on the picture of the 9mm, the problem you're having is not related to the trigger at all. The sear doesn't catch the striker until just before the round is fully in battery. So, what I believe is happening is the striker return spring is not pulling the striker back into the slide.

This can be caused by several things. The first thing I would do is completely disassemble the slide. Take out the striker assembly and the striker spring guide. To get the striker assembly out is easy, but the striker spring guide requires the striker block be removed first.

Once these parts are out, clean them thoroughly. Then reassemble without any lubrication; these parts don't need lube.

If you don't feel comfortable taking these parts out, let us know. I can take pics and help you through the process.

Reactions: BTW
It's hard to suggest a fix not knowing what has been done to the fire control group by others.

If they modified the sear (trying to mimick the APEX sear), they probably also modified the trigger bar by bending the 'loop' or 'Popsicle'. If they bent (opened) the loop too much, the sear can't reset.

They may also have shortened the firing pin spring as well as the sear spring.

I would plan on replacing the sear, sear spring, trigger bar, and firing pin spring with factory parts. Speed Shooters Supply has them. They may be out of the trigger bar but you can use the MA compliant trigger bar which is identical. Just don't use the trigger return spring that comes with that trigger bar as it's designed to increase the trigger pull.

If you can afford it, this would be the time to order APEX parts instead of the factory parts mentioned above and get a better trigger than most anyone else can offer.

What you have their is a broken firearm that was broken by someone who did not know what they were doing, while trying to solve a problem that did not exist. I suspect that the response telling you to send it back to S&W and have it returned to factory specs is the correct one.

It's a service gun, and does not really need a "trigger job". If one has been badly trained and is trying to "catch the link", or let off to the reset, that training scar need to be corrected.

If one really feels that some improvement to the trigger of the M&P is needed, the Apex DUTY kit is acceptable from what I have been told by people who know more than I.

BTW - a stoppage in the feeding cycle is a malfunction. "Jam" goes on toast.

I'd think I'd tell Impact Guns that they owe you a new pistol or fix yours back to factory. If it was fine before they worked on it, they should be liable for the way it is now. I guess after three tries I'd tell them they just bought it, and replace it with a new pistol. I don't see why you should have to pay S&W to fix it when you took it to a reputable? gunsmith to be worked on.

If they had done that the gun wouldn't work at all.

No, based on this picture:

The striker is not being pulled back into the striker channel. The most likely cause of this is dirt in the channel and/or striker assembly.

Even if the trigger bar loop was maladjusted, the striker would still be pulled back into the channel by the striker return spring.

So I figured out the problem. Impact guns are a bunch of dumb a**es. Their gunsmith forgot to put the striker spring guide back in. Swapped the one from my Shield and works flawlessly. Now I just have to wait for S&W to send me a replacement for the Shield.

Sounds like a bunch of knuckleheads at that store.

Unbelievable! The striker spring guide doesn't even need to come out to do a trigger job. Did you go back there and give them a piece of your mind? I wonder where they get these hacks and why they didn't test your gun prior to giving it back to you?

This is sad news. I had heard that Impact Guns was a decent place. I guess not for gun smith services.

I took the gun back there 4 times to have him look at it. He would always say it shoots fine. When I shot it it would jam after the first or second round. I went back in to talk with him yesterday, he basically told me that he wasn't going to do anything about it. I wont ever go back into that store again.

He left a part out and said he wasn't going to do anything about it??? What a...well this is a family friendly site.

"Ever" is a long time, but I'd not be going back there for a long time.
