For you 40 cal guys out there, what comparisons do you make with 180 grain vs. 155 grain ammo? I bought some of the 155 today and haven't shot any, but I found the 180 to have a healthy recoil. Real world experience requested:)

I honestly don't notice much difference between 180, 165, 155, or 135 gr .40s.

However, 155 gr loads are my favorite for carry. Nice combo of weight and speed.

Up until recently I carried the Hornady 155's but just ran into some Federal 135 gr. JHP's that I believe will become my new favorites.

I use the new Critical Defense from Hornady in .40 S&W. It is 165gr and has been much easier to get a better follow up shot with. My previous carry round for my Sigma was Speer Gold Dot's in 180gr. They performed great but had a sharper recoil than the new Hornadys, plus the muzzle flash is significantly less due to Hornady using a better mixture of low flash gunpowder. I have used a variety of 155 and 165gr bullets through the years and have found that in my hands, the lower grain bullets provide me with better control and accuracy over the 180 grain bullets.

Ive carried the Speer Gold Dot 165, seems to be a good compromise in velocity and shoots to point of aim for me.
