I'm fairly new to this forum and this has probably been discussed several times. From what I gather, my 40 shield can be converted to 9mm with just a new barrel and magazine. Is this correct?
And vice versa?

You can step down from 40 to 9 but not up from 9 to 40. You can get a conversion barrel from places like storm lake and lone wolf along with new mags to switch to 9mm

You're right. It has been discussed numerous times.

.40 to 9mm needs a barrel and mag. Many have had success with the stock S&W barrel. Good luck finding one. Several places make "conversion" barrels. This is where the search comes in.

9mm to .40 needs a full slide assy and a mag.

I have the shield also and cannot find one .

I have a shield and you cannot get a 9 barrel from neither place .

I only purchased the Shield in 40s&w because everyone at the time were saying I could have the best of both worlds via a 9mm barrel. The 2 companies that normally manufacture conversion barrels, Storm Lake and Lone Wolf, do not currently produce them for the Shield. When the Shield was first released, Smith and Wesson were selling and shipping the 9mm barrels; however, currently, Smith & Wesson will refuse to sell and ship the barrel. Instead, to get a new barrel for a Shield, they require that the barrel be factory installed.

Hello, I'm contacting you all to inquire about purchasing a M&P Shield 9mm Barrel. I do not see an option for that on the S&W website.

Dear Customer,

The barrels are not for sale. If you need a replacement barrel it is factory installed only.

Sincerely,

Rachel

I don't know why people have such a problem searching for "Shield Conversion Barrel", or even scanning the Subject Lines for the topic.

S&W stopped selling JUST the barrel to ANYONE (consumers, vendors like Midway... NAYONE) over a Year ago. The only way to find a 9mm Shield barrel is to search the various Gun Trading sites for Used ones, but those that were lucky enough to get one before S&W stopped selling them, aren't letting go of them.

No... Nobody is making Shield conversion barrels... yet. Storm Lake has said 'Some Day', but they've been saying that for 2 Years now.
