I know (at least I think I know)that the 4003 is the same gun as the 4006 but with an aluminum alloy frame. All my research indicates that the mags are different? I'm probably wrong - can anyone clarify if the mags are the same with these two models?

Yes, same magazines.
The 410, 411, 4003, 4003TSW, 4004, 4006, 4006TSW, 4026, 4043, 4043TSW, 4044, 4046 and 4046TSW all use the same mags.
They are generically known as "40 Series" magazines.

I have both a 4003 and a 4006 with 13 mags between them. Have both yellow and blue followers and they get intermixed all the time between the two pistols. All work fine in either.
