4003TSW Question

I have been looking for a used 4003 and have seen some of the police trade ins in the price range I want to spend, the question I have is what is the spot on the top of the barrel that looks like a hole was drilled there?
I have seen this on more then one of these guns and not sure what it is. Does this hurt the gun in any way?

It's a loaded chamber indicator. If you see brass, it's loaded. Standard on most (if not all) newer Smiths.

An innovative loaded chamber indicator allows the user to visually check the status of TSW pistols. When the rim of the cartridge is visible through the barrel hood window, user knows the pistol has a round in the chamber. A good excuse to post pics of my 4003TSW.
