Got this to go with my 4516's..Next up a 10mm. I now have just one M&P in a full size 40. It is a very nice shooting pistol with lots of round capacity.
i just find myself really enjoying the older Smith auto's, and was wondering if others have bounced back to the more traditional autos? Or maybe never left em? Thanks for your thoughts.

I've been carrying a M&P9C off duty since April or so of 2011 and a full-size M&P9 on duty since July of that same year. I now have four M&Ps (Issue gun, Range Issue gun, Personal M&P9, M&P9C, and my wife has a 5" Pro).

It's a great gun and I'm very happy with the M&P platform but I still have love for the older versions. I traded for a 915 earlier this year and just purchased a CS9 from a partner.

I've only had one S&W Poly framed pistol and it was more than enough for me... It was a SW40F, the first Sigma model S&W introduced. I got rid of it within a month of buying it, after having to send it back to S&W twice for a trigger pin backing out, and then the trigger spring breaking when I took it to range to see if the trigger pin was fixed.

Almost 20 years later and I'm still reading in the M&P section about trigger pins backing out... no thank you.

A 4506-1 came up for sale on the forum 6 years ago and I bought it... I was hooked immediately on the metal framed S&W pistols, and soon another one followed, and another, and...

4006 3rd Gen=old?

Hello,
I guess I never really thought of the 3rd Gen pistols as being old. I suppose I'm stuck in the 80's and 90's as far as S&W auto's.

The 4006 is a wonderful pistol, built to last and a pleasure to shoot. It will give you years of dependable shooting. Since you showed your's, here's a pic of mine. Mine is an early one with adjustable sights, bought new in 1990.

Thanks for your pics of some nice Gen Pistols! It is amazing how time has blown by, and the 80's and 90's are considered to be "Older". A man could go broke trying to attain a true collection of all the different generation Auto's and I didn't realize all the variants that Smith had available. I had a M&P 40c as well, and it just never seemed to feed as well as my Full size.

The S&W 3rd Gens superior build & desirability are not news around here. When I joined this Forum a short time ago, it was to get information on my new M&P40C. However, one of the first things I came across was a picture of a Forum member's 4013TSW, & I was hooked! All the 3rd Gens shown in the pic I've acquired since joining. Not shown is my most recent pride & joy, a 4513TSW. Watch yourself, its pretty easy to develop 3rd Genitis, as any number of people on this Forum can attest!

Yep... you have fallen into the realm of no return, start creating a "3rd gen slush fun" to support the habit and maintain domestic tranquility.

The 4006 has to be the most widely used S&W pistols (with good reason) , and the fact that the CHP picked it and has steadfastly refused to switch to the M&P, speaks volumes. If it wasn't for some large LE agencies stubbornly sticking with the 3rd gen and keeping it profitable, I believe S&W would like nothing better than to make them go away to finally eliminate the "distraction" from their precious M&P line.

I'm of the opinion that the M&P would not be where it is at today, had its 3rd gen pistol internal completion not been eliminated.

Oh well most of the 4inch and under will fit the two holsters I have..lol..That helps right?
