4006

I have had a 1006 for a few months now and I really like it. Today, I traded a Springfield xd-40 for a 4006. The XD was nice but the 4006 seems to fill my hand better. Even though the value for the XD was a little more than what these 4006 go for, I think I got the better of the trade. Anyone had any issues with the 4006s?

I've had a 4006 for close to 10 years. I used it to qualify for my CCW permit and carry it in some pretty harsh conditions on the farm. I've never had any issues with it whatsoever. I like it so much l just picked a second 4006 for back-up! Nuff said.

Own the 4006 (and several other third-gen models)... and IMHO it is one of S&Ws BEST third-gens and a flawless shoot!...
If you can ever get one in LNIB condition, buy it... it's a long-term keeper!!

I have all 4 calibers of gen3 Smiths. My 4006 runs flawlessly, but for some reason it seems to be the least accurate of my gen3's. Maybe it's just me. I don't particularily like the .40 S&W cartridge. Too snappy. Then again my 1006 doesn't seem like it has all that much recoil. Go figure

I have experienced the same thing. For some reason, this gun just doesn't group like my other 3rd gens and my other .40's.

i had a 4006 and it was a shooter.......ran flawlessly, and the PD would not let me carry it so i sold it and had to buy the dam glock 22(i hate it)

I have 2 4006's, and half dozen of other 3rd gens and they have been reliable to a fault.

The only problem I've experienced is with one of the 4006's and it's a common one with the 3rd gens... the trigger free play spring breaking. Aside from that, they've virtual tanks.

If you know how to do a complete tear down to remove the drawbar, it's not a difficult DIY fix.

The topic of trigger free play springs has been covered quite extensively, a search will turn up ample info. If your trigger makes a distinct click while being pulled, chances are the spring needs adjustment or a leg has broken off.

They are pretty trouble-free. The California Highway Patrol adopted them as their issue gun in about 1990. They shoot monthly so their guns get plenty of wear. CHP liked them well enough that they bought new ones recently to replace their originals. That is an endorsement of the durability and reliability of the gun.

My department adopted it as their first issue semiauto in 1991. We had no troubles at all. Some folks disliked them because they were heavier than, say, a Glock or Sig, but the weight makes the S&W easier to shoot well.

I bought mine in August, 1990, when S&W began shipping them to dealers. While I haven't got a real high round count in it (perhaps 1,500 rounds total), it hasn't ever had a stoppage.

I got a 4006TSW its been trouble-free so fare.
