A lgs has a 4013 TSW for $850.

Good price? Terrible price?

Or somewhere between?

I've been looking here in CA for a CS40 for several years. No joy.

I even got 3 brand new CS40 magazines but no gun to use them in

Seems like the 4013 TSW isn't much bigger or heavier.

$650-$700 would be the most I would be willing to pay and that would be if it was in pristine condition with multiple mags.

4013TSW is a nice pistol but it is double stack where regular 4013 and CS40 are single stack. That makes it slightly wider. The CS40 comes with either single sided left safety or double sided. The single sided will again be narrower than a 4013TSW. A regular 4013 might be a bit better but still double sided safety.

There have been CS40s in recent classifieds below but not sure what can be sold into Ca and lots of sellers specifically say they will not sell anything to Ca due to problems importing firearms.

As for prices cant say in state Ca probably higher, but I have seen 4013TSW go anywhere from $400 to $600 in normal world depending on condition, so $850 would be too high for me in La even in NIB condition with several mags. But probably better if you ask someone in state about value.

A Real Opinion...

Living in CA and dealing with the STUPID ROSTER you have to throw sensibility; what is this worth, out the window.

As stated you have no joy with finding a CS40.

Here is a 4013 TSW staring you in the face. With Box, Case Candy, 2 Mags and 90% +++ condition this is a good buy. Even with Tax and DROS. Offer something and see where it goes?

Opinions form those out of state don't even matter. Who cares they don't live here and don't get the BS over "Safe" guns, the Roster and availability of PPT purchase.

Get it while you can...buy once and cry once.

Best, Dave

ACEd did not reply to size note. This is just one CA Prisoner comment to another here in the same boat. We don't know of the condition/details. IMO that condition represents value for this "type" of example.

I did not see condition or case / mags mentioned but my point was more in response to size differences

Since I don't live in CA, I can't comment about the price.

I can comment that I have a 4013 TSW and that it's a joy to shoot. Very accurate, recoil not bad at all, sized well for me.

Good luck with your search.

My sympathies to those still subject to Ca oppression - I left Ca in 2004.

My concern is I have seen several 4013TSW recently in very poor physical condition. Some under $400, with re-import markings, with a single incorrect 4006 11rd mag sticking out, and with no bids - The difference between one in such condition vs a NIB example in matching box / case with 3 mags is several hundred dollars in most markets.

Without knowing condition, recommending a purchase or estimating a value without regard to condition would seem to be challenging, except possibly in Ca. Perhaps a Ca price range would be more meaningful.

But if the decision also rests on size, it is worth noting the 4013TSW is wider and will have a safety lever on both sides - while a single sided safety may be more desirable for carry as long as you are right handed.

Dont get me wrong, a nice 4013TSW is a sweet pistol - I just purchased another one that I could not resist for $650 out the door in great condition with unique LE Decock Only Safety and matching Frame/barrel/slide markings in original case and 3 mags. Same pistol in Ca could probably bring $850, but I defer to Ca residents to give price range.

PS One last point, if you are buying person-to-person and not retail, you are probably not paying sales tax and shipping that could easily add $100 to price of a $750 retail gun.

I got one a couple of years ago from the old Summit Gunbroker . I called to order a CHP 4006TSW and we got to talking . Seems he got some CHP 4013TSW's and he talked me into buying one . I think I remember reading there aren't too many of them . I won't make you cry by telling you what I paid .

I would go with a CS40 if you can find one . I had mine converted to 10mm by BMCM . Then I thought about it , and told myself I just ruined a beautiful CS40 . Like any S&W fan I found a way to spend mo' money . I got another slide , barrel and sent it off to Guzzitaco . He blasted it , reblued it and put PC cuts on it and then an LPA sight on it . Just an idea if you can find one .

I have the 4013 and and 4013TSW. I like them both as they shoot and feel great. I also have a CS40 but only shot it once and it was incredibly accurate for such a small, light pistol.
You being in Cal, I'd not think twice about the price and snatch it up!

In April of 2022 I won a non rail 4013TSW product code 104441 for $530.
After my 6% tax that GB takes now and shipping it was $597. It was mint in the box will all paperwork and 2 magazines. They were going for more money but this was the same week all of the surplus 4013TSW pistols started showing up for $400 and I think this helped me get it for less than $700. The prices are over the top for all Gen 3 pistols in 2022 and to be honest I was surprised I won it for $530. I had some magazines for the pistol that I picked up a few years ago and had been searching locally for one but it hadn't showed up so I held to $600 for my high bid. I will say I have the single stack and now this double stack and they are both great weapons .

A bit of advice. Don't shoot it much. The frame cracks at the top of the mag.well.

Are you saying don't buy the CS40, a CS40 converted to 10mm, or a 4013TSW? I'm not sure what "it" is in your sentence.

While I am not authorized to speak for Adrian Olsen, I recall from his earlier postings that he was a Gunsmith for the CHP, and some of the 4013TSWs in their inventory suffered frame cracks with a lot of shooting.

He didn't say "don't buy one", but he did pass along very good advice regarding the alloy framed compacts that has been well known for a very long time, and that is ANY alloy frame S&W will wear faster than a comparable steel framed pistol, and that is especially true for compacts chambering the 40 or 10mm.

Buy 'em, shoot 'em, replace the recoil spring regularly, and keep in mind, "They were meant to be carried a lot and shot a little".

I got mine about five years ago when the CHP must have gotten rid of the last ones. Other than a nick on the tang it looked unused & I was tickled to get it for a great price too.

I like the 4013TSWs, & it's relatives a lot.

They seem plenty tuff. I can't imagine one cracking in the mag well? Maybe at the slide stop with a ton of use.

I offer my apologies if this is considered a "thread drift. Have been out of the gun buying market for a while due to circumstances beyond my control. What does the reference to "the old Summit GunBroker" mean? No longer in business?
