I just ordered a 4053 from J&G and was wondering what Smith's were compatible in size as I look for a holster as well if there were any other Smith magazines that would fit. Thanks!

Do you know weather you are getting a 8 shot single stack (first type) or one of the later models with a double stack magazine? There are 3 distinct variations of the 4053
1st type- Single stack 8rd mag made on the same frame as the 4516
2nd type- Called the Tactical, Double stack 9rd mag built on the same size frame as the 6946
3rd type- Called the TSW (Tactical Smith & Wesson) basicly the same as the second type except that it has the accessory rail in front of the trigger guard.
So if you have the first type then no the only mags that will fit are the single stack 8rd. But if you are getting one of the latter two types that are double stack then you can use 4006 mags, they just stick out a little way from the bottom of the gun. With these mags you can also get a spacer that fills the gap.

You bought a great piece. Feel free to email me with questions.

CDNN has a good price on factory 4053TSW magazines with the finger grip extension...

Picked one up from JG sales a while ago. It quickly became my first choice carry weapon. I picked up some extra mags from JG at the same time, I know could have found them cheaper but I was there and did not want to waste time chasing down the mags. Great piece and has worked flawlessly for me to date.

I have had both the 1st & 2nd types my self and my carry gun of choice (as a matter of fact I'm wearing it right now) is the 1st type with the single stack mag. I just like how flat it is, but the 2nd type like yours was great too and easier to find mags for.

Good grief! That's crazy for Smith to have three variants with different mags this way! My stars!

Actually, the third variant replaced the second. Since none of them are made anymore...the issue is pretty moot...

Besides...I like choices...

Man, that looks really great. What a steal from J&G, too. I had a 6946 that was the same size, and it made a great carry piece. That .40 certainly would as well.

What a steal!

I have a Tactical also - the grip[s are pretty beat - I'm looking for a replacement and considering a Houge set but can't seem to find the product number that fits. I'm looking for the non-finger grooved type.

Would you happen to know what grips fit the double stack model?

Also, the night sights that came with it are in need of replacement - any recommendations for a source and model?

Thanks

The grips on the double stack TSW series are the same as 6900 S&Ws'. The Hoques all have the finger grooves for that model, really bulk it up. I've never tried cutting the front strap off, I don't know if they have lock tabs to keep the side panels on in the front. Factory grips are available from S&W or Brownells for about $18.

I have a spare factory grip in very good condition. Email me and I'll be happy to send it to you...

Been a while since I started this thread and I have to say...BEST handgun buy I have made. I can't say enough about it. Shoots Hornady 155 JHP's into amazingly little groups and has never missed a beat with anything I have fed it.

It is carried in wither a Ross IWB or a Galco Speed Scabbard. It also is a PERFECT fit for the CCW pocket on my Versipak Fatboy.

I was also pretty suprised by the smoothness of the DAO trigger. Did I say I love this gun?

Glad you like it...

While not the ideal carry piece, I've become rather fond of the 4043 myself. It's not as accurate as a SiG and not as lightweight as a Glock, but it posesses wonderful ergos and balance...not to mention it's classic "American" appearance...

LOL...

Please don't tell anyone, but I'm a displaced Yankee myself...born and raised in Chicago...

I got your email, and 2 sets of double-stack arched back compact grips were mailed out to you at 12:45pm today...

Enjoy...

I have a 4053 first version (single stack). My night sights are dead also. They're Trijicons on mine.....I called Trij. and for $50 something they can replace the inserts, all they need is the slide. Call them 1st.

I'm sorry I missed the second half of this, if anyone else has any spare factory grips lying around I could use a set. My 4053 came with Hogue's and I don't really care for them vs. the plastic factory ones.
