.41 Mag follows me home

All I can tell you is that I had those same Altamont's on my six inch 629 and after one trigger pull with some mild magnum I emptied the other five, pulled the wood, and put on the Pachmayr for the rest. Wear a glove or hold on tight!!!

I lucked into mine a couple of years ago. I knew nothing about them at the time. I later learned here from our better "learned" members about them.

If its a lew horton edition you have done very well. The 41 magnum is a true handgunners round. I have the model 57 which is blued. Its a great handgun.

...it seems all the 3" guns are called "Lew Horton Specials" probably because Lew Horton's contracted the first 3" round butt gun, the 24 Combat Special, followed the following year by the stainless 624 version.

S&W came out with the 657 and 629 versions shortly thereafter and most people think these were also Lew Horton exclusives but they were not.

I was a dealer at the time and bought a bunch of the 3" .44 Specials keeping one stainless and one blue for myself. Sold the blue one to a friend who still has it along with the original holster and sold the stainless one to a dealer friend.

Also had one of the 657 3" guns but someone offered me a lot more money than I paid for it so sold it also. Have had 4 more since but only kept one that was Mag-Na-Ported...

Great shooters and a great find...that LH Special sometimes sells in the $1300 are so you invested your money well... The non-LH standard underlug will sell for $900+- if the Combats are still on it...no box or paperwork...
