I recently picked up a 41 mag S&W revolver. Just curious what ya'll are using for recipes and projectiles. I have loaded quite a bit of .357 mag and rifle cartridges. Just figured I'd get on here see if anyone else is reloading .41 mag.

Are you looking for full-power loads, or something approximating the old "Police" loads?

I use 7.8 gr. of Titegroup with either a home-cast 210-ish gr. SWC or a commercially cast SWC of the same weight. Velocity is about 1150 fps and the load does quite well on hogs.
I've also loaded 10.5 of Longshot with the same bullet in addition to a 220 gr. Keith SWC. Velocity is right at 1200 fps and this load is very accurate at 50 yds. The only heavier load I use is 16.0 gr. of 2400 and the 220 gr. Keith SWC. Velocity is just under 1300 fps out of a 4 5/8" barrel and just over 1300 fps out of a 6 1/2" barrel.

Unless you have very deep pockets you pretty much have to reload for this caliber if you want to shoot it more than a very small amount. I use mine for my "when I am walking around in the boonies where something dangerous might want to eat me" carry. It would deal with anything four legged or two that I am likely to encounter in the lower 48.

Using any 210-220 gr cast / plated / jacketed bullet 7.0 grs of Hodgdon's Titegroup works well for mid range , 7-7.5 grs of HP38 / W231 ( the same) is another good mid range load . When I want more I use 17.0 grs of 2400 . Berry's Bullets makes a nice 210 gr plated bullet . I seat it till the shoulder is about the thickness of a dime above the case mouth over 7.0 gr of HP-38 for a real nice shoot all day with power / clean shooting combination . Regards Paul

My most-used reloads are 7.5 grains of Longshot with 215 grain LSWC for a service load and 20.5 grains of Lil Gun behind 210 grain Hornady XTPs for full power handgun and also my primary carbine load.

The first handgun I ever bought was in 1973. It was a 6.5" Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Magnum. I used a Keith style 210 gr. hard cast bullet and Blue Dot powder. I was 16 at the time. Anyway, I managed to get away with something...I was using, I think, the Lyman #45 loading manual. I misread, transposed, or something other and ended up using a load that was around 4 grains above maximum listed. It was after about 500 rounds that I learned of my error. There were no pressure signs, other than a slightly flattened primer, but I had that happen with the couple of boxes of Remington 210 SP factory ammo. Cases extracted easily, accuracy good. Well, anyway, ended up using it as my standard load in that revolver for over 15 years. The one gun I would pay triple what I sold it for to get it back.
