Model 41 22LR issue

I recently bought a model 41 22lr that dates back to 1968. A few issues with a full mag stove piping on the first round or two. I am working through that with cleaning, etc.
New issue, I draw the slide back and lock it, insert mag, drop slide, with using either the mag release or or sling shot method and occasionally, not every mag, the gun will not fire. Firm hard trigger but will not release. The cocked indicator on the back of the slide is out. I try and hit the back of the slide thinking it is not totally in battery but still will not fire. If I draw the slide back about an inch and release it and it will fire and run the whole mag with no issues. This does not happen on every mag but enough to be anoying. It does not matter if I have eight, nine or ten rounds in the mag to start. I have not found that there is any particular mag that this happens with, just hit and miss. Any thoughts on cause or cure for this issue?

When you say it doesn’t fire do you mean:
1. The trigger won’t move at all, or
2. The trigger moves but the hammer doesn’t drop.

If 1, I’d look at the trigger return spring. Next time it happens you could try manually pushing the trigger forward. Not sure why problem this would be intermittent, maybe really filthy in there.

The trigger does not move to the rear. I did not try and move it forward. I will try that next time, thanks. I have scrubbed and blasted the gun top to bottom, dirt should not be an issue.

It may be that the trigger stop screw at the rear of the trigger guard needs to be adjusted.

In reading I find three common causes of my issue.
1. Trigger stop screw. Suggestions are to back in off a tad.
2. Shooting hand, finger, thumb is hitting the manual safety causing the issue.
3. Magazine disconnect is not working correctly due to spring or other issue.
I am putting my money on the magazine disconnect because when the issue occurs if I pull the slide back about an inch and release it resets and fires. I would guess changing pressure on the magazine disconnect when I draw the slide back cures the issue. The spring seems fine and the disconnect is lubed well. We will see when it happens again.

I do not know if this will help ,but anyone with a 41 should know about it.

I had the opportunity to spend some serious time at the range today. I used all three mags loading them to different levels. I did spend a lot of time going through the magazine disconnect, trigger, trigger spring and manual safety not only clening and oiling but making sure all of the parts moved as they should. I am happy to report that the gun fired flawlessly on every attempt. I can only hope that this good luck continues. Thanks to all for their input ande suggestions. I believe the videos I received gave me new found knowledge to diagnose and fix the issue or issues. The forum is full of great people. Thank you.

I'd try what schwantz posted in #4. The trigger stop might be over extended and keeping the sear from releasing. All you need do is to move it back in with an Allen Key slightly. Worth a try.

If the last 8 rounds feed without any problem,I'd think the reason for the first two not firing is probably the magazine. Have you tried another one?
