G44 issue.

Grandson & I were at the range a couple weeks ago. One of the handguns was the G44, .22 LR. I'm not a big Glock person but I've never knocked them either. They just shoot & shoot...except for mine! I bought it last year, used. I shot all 4 mags after I bought it, with no issues. So shooting it the other day, it would shoot just fine but failure to feed every shot, two different mags. I finally cleaned it up a day or so later and I learned when racking the slide, the slide was weak going back and about 1/2 - 3/8 inch from being back in position something is holding it up. Before this I had it apart, cleaned it up good, put a couple drops of oil on the rails. Working the slide back & forth after oiling is when I found the issue. I can't see what it's hanging up on, but holding onto the slide is when it stops short. If I just rack it, say to load a round, it goes into battery. But I think maybe whatever is causing it to hang up is probably causing the FTF issue. That's it for my Glocking abilities! I can't see where it's hanging up, or rubbing on anything. Before I take it to the smith, has anyone ever heard of this? I have a .40 caliber Glock to compare with, but the innards are probably different. I'm not part of the Glock Forum so I can't ask anyone there.

I found that my Glock doesn’t like lead bullets from the Winchester bulk pack.

So I get about 98% reliability with CCI Mini-Mags copper plated solids.

I had a S&W 422 4" with the same problem. New return spring, dry lube, no lube, different mags, nothing worked! That gun will use Model 41 mag, but is only reliable with "High Velocity" ammo. Target, subsonic and standard velocity just won't cut it!

Yes, G44s like 40 grain copper plated round nose, over 1200 fps.

When you say it won't return to battery, is that with ammo in the gun or without?

LVSteve...Both. Although, I really don't like screwing around with a loaded gun in my house. (Don't ask, don't tell!) Okay, so yesterday I was a little bored and pulled out my G23 just to look, etc. That one has the same "issue" of having the little resistance at the same spot, so I'm going to try different ammo like Sgt Rock 11B suggested. If that CCI works, I'll never buy anything else for this gun. (Of course, duh!!) I will be back with a report after the range trial. I think those are the only two Glocks I have, but I'm thinking the little resistance is a Glock thing. But man, this is a nice little gun, and .22LR is a great cartridge. I could practice in my back yard if I had a muffler for it.

If anyone has a Glock sitting beside them, rack the slide and see if it happens, then you'll know what I'm referring to. Ya have to hold onto the slide all the way back to that 3/8 - 1/2" before it's completely back in place.
And please don't shoot yourself or anything. Again, don't ask!
