I've got a bunch of 225-grain LSWC Keith-type bullets and I'm experimenting with H110 and will be with Accurate #9. Pal of mine says he loads this bullet over 18.0 grs of H110, but another pal says that's a light/low pressure load for H110. I've loaded the bullets over 18.0 grs and they aren't consistent. Is there any GOOD source of data for this particular bullet (last one on the right).
I've been loading 210-grain Nosler JHPs over 20.0 grs of H110 for a long time with good results, but I want to drift more to lead SWCs to reduce barrel wear.

Oh, and please... NO RECOMMENDATIONS for Unique. Not interested. THX in advance.

In rifle bbl wear, I consider HEAT rather than friction. In magnum HG's possible the same. I read decades ago that ball powders burn "cooler" than others. this while featuring photos of eroded forcing cone edges. I don't click my teeth when I smile so I don't chase the edge of the envelope. My first experience with 296 was my first year hand loading, 1982. A clerk recommended 296 for my Ruger 41 magnum. WW recipe cited NO reduction from maximum charges. I shot a box than flushed the remainder of the pound down the sewer. I would go with #9 or 2400.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th edition
has data for a cast 220 gr. SWC - Saeco #418 with
H110 data .
start load - 18.4 grs H110 @ 1238 fps
maximum load - 20.5 grs. H110 @ 1323 fps .

I would load some test rounds with 18.5 / 19.0 and 19.5 grs of H110 and see how they do ... H110 does not like to be light loaded ... I think you need a bit more pressure to get the H110 burning right and being accurate .

Winchester WLP primers were used in Lymans tests ...
be sure and use a Magnum Primer with H110 ... it can help accuracy a lot !

Lyman's testing showed the best accuracy with this bullet was with ... 2400 powder .

Good Luck and Load Safe,
Gary

Yeah, I like 2400 with lead, but I haven't seen a pound of 2400 for over a year. I'm picking up a pound of Accurate #9 on Friday. It has a similar burn rate to 2400 and I'll give it a try. THX

I have loaded a lot of H110/WW296, 2400, and AA#9 in my 41’s. While all 3 work very well, I have settled on #9 as my “go to”. I think you will like it.
