I purchased a 43C from Bud's Police two months ago. The revolver I received was an early gun from 2010, with the Trijicon front night sight. I was only able to get two range trips out of it before I had to return it for repair. It was spitting very badly, and experiencing a large amount of lead buildup above the forcing cone. I called for a label, close to closing time, and my request was handled very quickly over the phone. Too quickly. After not receiving the label in my email for three days, I called again. I was assured that the label was on the way and sometimes took a full 48 hours (it was well past 48 hours at this point), but I pressed the CS representative to explain the delay. He found that my email address has been typed incorrectly, fixed it, and I had the label in my email the next morning.
Turn around time was 3 weeks exactly, which was acceptable to me. The return letter listed a few things which had been done, but some other corrections were also made based on my complaint letter. A list of repairs follows:
Replaced cylinder due to cosmetic defects
Bored out forcing cone to correct spitting
BC gap reset to .006
Replaced yoke screw (not sure why, the original screw was fine)
Installed lanyard pin
I also asked that the DA pull on each cylinder be verified for consistency, as there was a slight hitch on one or two chambers. No trigger work was listed, but the DA pull on all chambers is acceptable now. They may or may not have worked on it.
I finally got a chance to hit the range today and test out the repairs. The gun is 100% now, and I am very happy. Zero spitting, very easy ejection of spent cases, and a nice smooth trigger. Firing pin strikes are solid. Shots hit POA/POI out to 5 yards or so, after that a 6 o'clock hold is required. Shots remain relatively centered out to 25 yards, good enough for SD use. I really like the front night sight, and feel lucky to have received an early model with this sight.
There has been a lot of talk recently about S&W quality. My experience follows the norm. My gun should not have shipped from the factory as it was, but they did fix the gun to my satisfaction at no cost to me. Now that I have the gun back and working, I plan to put it to good use. The 43C is a great model and will make a good little brother to my 642.
