4 out my 6 s& w guns had to be sent back for QC issues New in the box gun I just received.. too much of a hassle to return to the online gun dealer I purchased from .. how do you push this pin back ? Or should I send back to S&W to fix ?

It will be greatly appreciated if anyone can advise on how to push back that pin in place ? Is it safe to shoot that way ? I’m thinking I should test fire to make sure no other issues are present ( light primer strikes , stuck trigger ..)if I need to send back .. I currently have my brand new 340 pd at S&W with a stuck trigger .. the trigger get stuck when it loaded and fired or with snap caps .. no issue if I dry fire with an empty cylinder.. almost 2k on 2 lemons

I'd place that thing muzzle down, braced, with the cylinder open. Then, plop a drop of Kroil onto the inner, beveled tooth of the plunger. Let it sit overnight. That may be all the cure it needs. I've come across exactly one such example in my life where the inner coil spring was buggered up enough to cause the freezing of the detent like that. Albeit, an old, much worn gun...not a new/ish J-frame.

Very bizarre .. I also discovered that I have to push the cylinder release rearward to open the cylinder , similar to Colt revolvers . All my S&W revolvers, I have to push forward to open .does this make any sense? .

Send it back

With the pin issue and the cylinder release acting up I’d sent it back. I’ve bought two new S&W revolvers in the past few years
637-2 and a 442-1
The 442 has been my EDC and I have had no issues with it.

My 637 stopped rotating the cylinder after some dry firing with snap caps when I first got it. Had to fight with the company as they said the inside was all scratched up so tampered with. They wanted to charge me to fix it. My FFL sent paperwork indicating it was a brand new gun. Took a few months but they eventually fixed it for free. Small handspring inside came loose. Since then I have fired it a few times no issues.

Send it back and detail both issues.

My 43c went back to S&W 3 times, albeit not for your same issue.
Mine had lightstrikes, and seems to have cleared up on the 3rd trip back- I'll know more in the summer!
I do notice that the cylinder is much more difficult to open now that it is "fixed."
I'd be inclined to send that one back if you can live without it for a few weeks.

Too many issues with it not to send back .. the gun is defective. I contacted the online dealer and they offered full refund and will send shipping label . I may do that .

In retrospect, for what I paid for that thing new, I think I would do the same.
Unless you're married to the idea of it being a Smith, there are other, more cost-effective guns that will fill that role.
