44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model Stock question

I recently acquired a 44 Hand Ejector 2nd model. From what I've read, the serial number dates it to around 1925 (229xx). It has a 5" barrel and fixed sights. I own a few S&W revolvers, but nothing this old. A gunsmith looked at it, found no problems and said cowboy action loads should function fine in it. I fired a dozen rounds through it with no problems. My question concerns the stocks. They are not original to the gun. I believe they are from the '70s. Target stocks from newer stocks fit my hand better and I would like to know if currently manufactured N frame target stocks would fit properly on this old N frame? Thanks

Yes, N frame grips should fit, stocks go on Colts.

Actually, it is exactly the opposite - S & W has usually referred to them as "stocks". You can call them the "wood thingys" too.

A 2nd model 44 will be your favorite gun before long, and people will be in envy that you have a 5". Yes, target N frame stocks will fit very well. Although I have original stocks for my pre war N frames, post war target stocks are what I shoot them with. And the term "stocks" is authentic S&W terminology; you can call them grips. Even the factory historian, Roy Jinks, will refer to them as grips in his historical letters and his forum posts.

I inherited one of those. About once every 2 years I shoot a few rounds through it. I load a 240 grain LSWC at about 750 fps published.
