I have a Model 629 with 6 inch barrel. I have reloaded with H-110 and it is a good powder. In the past I have used Alliant 2400. What do you reload with and why? What powder is best for max loads or mild loads?
Thanks

WC 820 does it for magnum loads, red dot for mild and midrange.

I use 296, Longshot, and Trail Boss for heavy down to light loads. Trail Boss is a bit tricky in that you have to pretty much fill up the case and use Magnum primers.

I agree with Max and FlyFish, on the unique, it makes for a really good mild load and I guess the pressure is within a good range for that powder as it seems to burn cleaner in my .44 mag loads than in my .38 special and .45 auto loads.

I don't load much for the 44 mag, but do load a lot in 41 mag. Titegroup seems to get the job done. If I can recall about 7or so grain with about 200 grain bullet, will do 1350 or so. But it's been awhile.. Plus Titegroup is cheap to shoot too..

For mid range loads give CFE Pistol a try. For light target loads I like Hodgdon Clays quite a bit.

For mild loads I have several recommendations . I like bullseye , Winchester Super Target . With the 429421 Lyman mold in all of my posts here I use 5.0 / Bullseye , WST- 6.0 .
For mid range I use Winchester Superfield and Ramshot Zip . For my WSF loads I use unique load data and add about .5 gr as it is a bit slower burn rate . I wasn't able to find any unique for years . WSF works well and yes , it shoots very very clean. Ramshot Zip (8.0grs). This load is a great " everyday carry working mans load " . It is a little light for the large 4 legged animals / predators . Most burn rate charts list Zip next to W231 and HP38 . Hope that helps .
Full power magnum , here again since I couldn't find any 2400 for over 5yrs I started using Ramshot Enforcer / Accurate arms 4100 ( they are the same , use current load data ). I have also have great success w/ HS6 (13.0grs) for those " almost " magnum loads using much less powder and also Blue Dot (14.5grs).
I just started using some Acc #9 in 357 mag loads and am very very pleased . Will test in 41 mag and 44 mag later . As always , start low and work up slowly .

I use W296, Hornady XTP, and mag primers for magnum loads.
I use Titegroup, Missouri Bullet, and large pistol primer for special loads in mag brass. I only load mag brass.
Titegroup is fine for the mag loads when W296 is not available.

Just started loading 44 mag and went with 2400 with 240gr Hornady XTP's. Still looking at doing some light loads with lead bullets.

Full on loads with 2400 or #9. Don't enjoy doing to many of them. Mid range HS-6 and now CFE-P I find work real well.
Really liked #9 and would like to try #5 or #7 but I just don't see many Accurate powders.

Unique is pretty good. Boosts a 240-gr up to 1200 fps nicely, doesn't leave a mess of unburned powder or melted lead. Plenty of oomph to remind you you're not shooting a .45, but still quite comfortable to shoot all afternoon.

I'd try out H110, 2400, etc, but I honestly just can't justify expending 2.5x as much powder per shot for such a slight velocity increase. I'm not hunting, and I'm not shooting at 75 or 100 yards.

For 'polite' bullet weights, pressures, and velocities, I've been using Universal, but strictly so that I can get rid of my pound of Universal! Burns horribly at .44 Spl pressures under a 180 RNFP. I need to dig up some Bullseye data for that weight, and likely switch over to 200-gr wadcutters.

I use 296/110 for the few real magnums I shoot these days. WW231/HP38 for everything else because I have used it for a long time, am familiar with it and have a lot of it on hand. Probably better options out there but at this stage for me and with supplies on hand it will likely do me.
