44 Magnum Patches

Can't collect the Model 29 without looking for accessories to go with it. The Buffalo Skull patch was designed in late 1955 and was given out at shows promoting the new "44 MAGNUM". The "Another First" patch dates to 1956/57. The 50th Anniversary patch was issued in 2006 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of th 44 Magnum. The "Silhouette" patch I am unsure about, but probably dates to around 1983.

I have only seen pictures of the buffalo which have beengoing for high prices and I haven't seen the annivesery patch before so now I can add that to my quest . I collect pins and patchesof anything S&W , as they are cheaper than the guns well now a days. Last buffalo patch I saw was 250.00 , but collecting?searching is all part of the fun .

Bill, I've always considered the "Silhouette" patch as sort of a generic S&W patch, as it could be for any Model between 23 to 29. That's not to say it doesn't belong with a Model 29 display - just an observation of mine, based on S&W's usual practice of identifying a patch to individual models, unless Marketing felt the occasion called for a "One size fit's all" patch. Ed.

Ed...You are right. It could be any N-frame target revolver.

I've seen postings here of the "buffalo" but never for sale.
I'll have to keep my eye out for one.

Here's a scan of the "Another First" patch I recently got. It's got a little
moth nipping here and there, but still good looking.

Although that is true, no serious IHMSA competitor shot the match with anything but a 41 or 44 Mag or cartridges not chambered by S&W. The 357 Mag just wouldn't reliably take down the rams with a low hit or if they were hard set or if they got any mud on the foot (like gluing them to the rail). The 357 Super Mag was a favorite in Revolver Class at my local range.
I really don't know anything about NRA Silhouette, so a smaller caliber could have been used in that competition.
