Quick pics. I think it will clean up
ok. Bore, timing, lockup is great.
1927 vintage 5 inch barrel all matching numbers.
The book serial number it as a 44 second model.
However it also states the ejector should
be unshrouded.
Anyway...I went ahead and bought it ..(Pawnshop)
Photos are not very good...nickel Is hard to photograph.

looks like a 3rd model.

Are there any N stamps?

That would be a third model, probably W&K which means it didn't travel far. Out west we don't get a lot of pre WWII N-frames, mostly 1917's. I did have the opportunity to buy a 3rd model 44 several years ago but it looked like it had been dragged down a gravel road for a mile or two, and I think they wanted $675 for it.

That is a 3rd model .44 also known as The Model of 1926 Wolf & Klar.It is much more sought after and valueable than a 2nd Model .44.It has Jigged Bone Stocks to complete the South West look.If You decide to move it,Shoot me a PM...:)

Nice find! Do you think the nickel is original?

The 2nd and 3rd model .44 HEs overlapped SN ranges. Enjoy!

Definitely a third model Wolf & Klar. There's a good chance it shipped to them. Really nice find. I have it's twin only mine shipped in blue and was nickeled later. It is reportedly an east Texas LEO gun and had the jigged bone grips exactly like yours. Great Find! I believe the nickel is original (not refinished). I'm another one that if you decide to part with it, I'd like to know. Enjoy it.

The first 3rd model built was 28358. The first shipment of seventy five (75) 3rd models was sent to W&K on January 27, 1927 and they were all 5" nickel. I have 28363, which was part of this batch. It was sent back to the factory in February 1942 and renickeled.

2nd or 3rd. you couldn't have lost either way. 2nd. Model 5" ain't all that common and usually very expensive in the bargain. 3rd. model to W&K is a definite winner as well. You should buy a lottery ticket. Oh and send me the address of that pawn shop. Finish looks original and those jigged bone grips set it off.
Enjoy

Bob

Are these listed prices even remotely close ?
Old gun shot like a dream today. Double action
very smooth. Gave it a good cleaning.
Book prices surprised me.
I guess this rates about 70%...your opinion ?
Letter enroute....20weeks according to Mr. Jinks.

An interesting excerpt. I've always had trouble with the blue book. I certainly wouldn't trust their values. That goes for either buying or selling. My complain involves them not even listing the 4" guns. It gets worse with some other guns. In the past they didn't even list the prewar Masterpiece 22s.

Those values are actually pretty close for a 5" Nickel Gun.I would value your Gun at about $2,000 maybe a tad higher with the Jigged Bone Stocks.

Two years ago I sold a refinished (poorly) 3rd Model 1926 on Gunbroker and it fetched about $700.

They do list the 4",It's just in the Spine of the Book.
