44 SPL.

Ive been lookin for a 44 SPL. and not having any luck . I would like to fond a S&W or a Ruger single action any way there is a SS 5in barrelled charter arms target model for sale .Ive never shot one or hear any thing about them any one have any thoughts

I've heard good and bad about the Charter Arms but have never owned one. If you have nothing against single action, I believe I'd look close at the Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum. You can always shoot the .44 special in it. I love my Ruger Bisley .44 magnum.

I have a Charter 2000. Not the best gun in terms of refinement but goes BOOM every time so far. It's OK to shoot comfort wise.

I've heard they shoot lose but don't have the round count on mine to know.

It's a comfort to have. I know what a .44sp will do.

I also shoot an early Ruger Blackhawk and find it fun to use specials in it as well as Magnums.

.44 special is one of my favorite cartridges. I have a S&W 696 and a pre 24 to satisfy my shooting urge.

I don't know much about the Charter Arms Bulldog, but here it's a great .44
I have a friend with a Rossi 720 (.44 spl) and it's a fine revolver with a great trigger.

Do you want a double action or will a single action do? I have this lipsey special ruger in .44 special. They also make them in stainless, 4 5/8" (mine is 5 1/2"). They cost less than a 1/3 of a colt sa. They are a sweet gun to pack and weigh less than a ruger in .44 mag.

I got a mean streak. Besides the ruger I also own these. They are all in .44 special. I am not sure how this happened.

The .44 Special is my favorite round, but i shoot it from a Ruger Redhawk. The current issue of American Handgunner has an article on the CA Bulldog, both the 4 and 5" models. My grail gun is a 1950 Target 4" in .44 Spl..someday!

I have 1 just like it 33/4 in bbl. I shoot reg loads for practice and a little hotter for packing in the hills. Elmer Keith helped develop the 44 mag out of a 44 spec with 4 in bbl.

I have an old 3 inch Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special and I'm in the process of cutting the barrel to 2 inches and moving the front sight back. It's going to be J frame size with a bigger bore.

The .44 Special is one of my favorite calibers. Big bullets, moderate recoil and exceptional accuracy. What's not to like?
I prefer it in good old S&Ws. But wouldn't mind a good SA.
I had one of the Rugers, But it must have been a Monday morning gun. Several QC issues and poor accuracy. Sent it back to Ruger who fixed the issues, but accuracy never was up to par. Its gone.

Good caliber & old Elmer took it to the bank with the 44 Mag.I've owned several starting with a 1926 S&W. Later my prewar Colt SA converted to 44 Sp.Taken 5 deer thruout the years with the old Colt. It's 5 years older than myself & is a safe queen now. The Colt is a 1926 issue.

I recall that David Berkowitz killed a number of young folks in the NYC Son of Sam murders back in the '60's using a Charter Arm Bulldog in .44. I think his sorry butt is still in the slammer.

My first .44 Special was this S&W Model 21-4 Thunder Ranch. Its accuracy led me down the path to more 44 Specials. Great handloader's cartridge, like a big brother to the .38 Special.

I used to have a couple of the older Charter 38's. If the 44's were made as well as those guns were, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

But for now, I guess I'll settle for this one in 44 Special.

A lot of people will tell you to just buy a 44 magnum and shoot 44 specials in it. You can do that of course, but there is a difference in the guns. At least in between the 29 and 24 and I gather the Superblack and Blackhawk.

I used to have a 4" Model 29-2 at the same time I had this 24. The 24 has a shorter cylinder, and a more tapered, lighter barrel, making for a lighter, quicker, handier feellin g revolver. When I decided to reduce my inventory it was an easy decision. The 29 went on down the road. I never shot magnums in it anyway.

There are several around Asheville. There is a nickel model 24 (I believe) in one GS and another has a stainless 3" model 29 Trail Boss. All od mine are .44 mag, here is one of the more unusual ones.

I'm a long-standing fan of the 44 Special, and since we're happily turning this thread into a 44 Special Porn thread, here's my contribution. An '83 24-3, my newly acquired Grail Gun 624 no-dash, and an oft-carried Rossi 720. The 624 is destined to be shot far more than the other two, it just begs for weekly range time!

I mave a ruger single action and a M-29 fond a 624 at a show today but couldnt make a deal he was at 750.00 (1985) the cyclnder has been replaced by S&W with box very good shape whats it worth.

I have a Charter Bulldog .44 sp. 2 1/2" barrel. Love the gun. Great concealment, lightweight & manageable kick. Of course it's not for shooting everyday. It's kept in my car for emergencies.

I'm calling my recently acquired 29-2 my "Heavy-barrel .44 Special" because that's mainly what it will be.

The 44 Special covers most of my handgunning chores.

Although I do carry and use other chambering, the 44 Spl is just a darling of a round.

Load 'er up with a hard cast or jacketed bullet....It's all good.

Really big fan of the 44 mag. I've been casting and loading it since 83 and I've taken game with it, shot it for accuracy at range and generally considered it my favorite.

That was until I started to shoot a dedicated 44Spl.

Without a doubt, I'd select the mag for hunting and woods use here in Northern California, but for the pure joy of shooting and the accuracy, the 44Spl is sublime.

I've been shooting a downloaded magnum of my own design for years, the Keith 250g SWC over 7g W231 in a magnum case and I've come to find that it's damn near the equivalent of a Skeeter round. Not to worry, my magnum is anything but tame, however the light loads were fun and I used them for target practice and introducing nuggets to the 44.

For those of you interested, try my favorite 44Spl round. Using the Keith 250g SWC, load it over 6.5g W231 in a Spl case. Tell me that doesn't hit a sweet spot.
