Been thinking of adding another 442 to my meager collection. I see that S&W has a 442 Pro Model, No lock, moon clips. Can this be used without the moon clips? Anyone have any personal experience with this model? Does appear to be faster to reload/unload.
None of the Gun shops in this area have any in stock to see, feel, taste, smell, etc, etc. Would like some feedback before I drop the hammer and order online.

Yes, you can indeed use it without the moon clips.

It's a superb deep concealment personal defense revolver. Carries like it isn't there; moon clips ride in a front pocket easy, and load/unload faster than anything else available; comfortable shooting most defense +Ps.

Highly recommended.

I carry the 442 Pro loaded with a moonclip. Also have Crimson Trace rubber grips to help with the NyClad 158 +P loads. I do carry a speedloader for the second round if necessary and 5 loose rounds in my jacket should it go beyond that. Found that the moonclips bend to easily in my pocket and have not found a good pouch to carry them in otherwise. A Mika pocket holster at times I wear short sleeve shirts otherwise an open holster from S&W. Never felt lacking for defensive protection.

Great gun and has stainless steel barrel and cylinder instead of carbon steel on regular model. This is a very cheap and easy way to carry moon clips...just a cell phone case costing about $3.00.

Did not know about the stainless barrel and cylinder. Thanks for the info.
Good idea for carrying extra moon clips. I am running out of space on my belt. LOL

I also carry a 442 Pro. I could be wrong, but I believe the barrel is carbon steel. Yes the cylinder is Stainless.

Both are stainless on the pro. I found this while doing a google search:

"Alright, so I found another spec sheet on S&W's website that said that the barrel is carbon steel. So I e-mailed the S&W customer service rep again, and the person I spoke with (Paul, who it seems to me probably isn't "just another" customer service rep like I first thought) said that the spec sheet is wrong: the barrel is PVD coated stainless steel, and in fact the 442 Pro Moon Clip has no carbon steel and is "basically a 642 with PVD coating". Hope that helps anyone else who was wondering the same thing."

442 Pro is a great carry, light, very concealable easy to forget you have it on. I changed the grips to Hogue for a better grip on a draw and more room for my pinky.

I put the old Uncle Mikes combat grips on mine, great gun that I frequently carry.

Well after spending last Saturday going to gun shops within about 50 miles from home and not finding a 442 Pro, today (just 5 minutes ago) I placed an order with Buds Guns in Kentucky. They have them in stock.
Looking forward to getting this gun. It should go well with my older 442 and my newer 642PC.
