44HE 2nd model Timing

I have a very well used 44HE that is slow on SA but OK on DA. It has some endshake. The cylinder notches are good. Will a cylinder shim (washer) fix this problem or a new hand? What is the fix?

How bad is the endshake? If it is only about .002, a washer may help. If it is greater than that, washers may help but then your barrel cylinder gap is going to be way excessive. A new hand is really the answer. The good news is that a modern hand will work as long as you don't have one of the sideplate mounted hammer blocks.

tennexplorer: The enshake is greater than .002, but I will try the hand first and see if that does the fix. I think that this gun was a prison gun due to the holster wear or at least it was carried daily for a long time. Got it at the Jackson MS show a while back. Thanks for the info.
