I've noticed that some .44mag ammo will chamber (haven't fired) in my M24-3 .44spl. Is this normal?

While this isn't the first I've heard of this, I would not consider it normal.

I would also consider it dangerous to fire the mag in a special. I know there are those that would say; modern gun, same material as a magnum, why not fire it.

I would say, no, don't. Why take the chance.

I would not expect 44 mag ammo to chamber in a 44 special unless some body has modified the cylinder.

I believe I would contact S&W about this, it could be a very big problem to someone someday. I understood this was one of the problems with the 624 recalls, cylinders with chambers cut too deep. 24/624 cylinders may not be strong enough for magnum pressures that they weren't intended for in the first place.

A long cut spl chamber may cause even higher pressures, if the crimp is in to close contact with the front of the chamber, which can keep it from opening.
