.45 ACP single stack carry recommendations?

Another vote for the Springfield XDs 3.3"

Half the weight of a 1911 and has a slimmer grip. Decent trigger, great reliability, and conceals easily.

I can shoot mine just fine. It's very accurate and more controllable than you might expect in a small .45

I carried mine IWB in the 4-5 o'clock position for about a year until I switched to a S&W 686+.

Traditionalist

Colt combined the Commander barrel and slide with the Officers frame to create the CCO, a 45 ACP with the 4 1/4 barrel and six rounds of ammunition. Others have copied it and the Dan Wesson my brother has is a nice iteration.

Colt Commander-I've had mine for close to 40 years-customized-big bright sights-beavertail grip safety-slick trigger-Nothing against the plastics-I'm good with the Commander.

Not me. I carried the 1911 Nightmare (cross-draw, open & concealed) all day yesterday while we were out (wal-mart, grocery store, restaurant, others) and will carrying it again tomorrow.

Well, that's two days covered.

Colt Combat Commander. it's perfect. especially if you have it bobtailed.

I have carried 3 different 1911's since the early 70's. The first two were full sized Colts. For some years now I have carried a Kimber UCII. The Kimber is starting to have that used patina that shows that it is a trusted friend. I like the "Night Sights" and have taken the time to get some range time with "Low Light." Try it sometime, and learn.

Another vote for the 457. In my time I have owned and shot full-size and Officer's models, a Defender and New Agent, a SIG P220, and even in my misspent youth, an AMT Backup. I would still rather depend on my rather tired looking 457s than any of these.

I carry a CS45, and I love it. I keep a 4513TSW by the bed, and have a 4506 in the safe. I do not like the DA only guns made today.

I actually owned a 457 a few years back and sold it to a friend.

It had a weird trigger and this was back before I really got into working on my guns.

I have been carrying the 1911 since the 9th grade, circa 1967.
MY current EDC is a Wilson Combat XTAC Compact.

Wilson's are kinda spendy, but they always seem to work 100%, in my experience.
MY LIFE IS WORTH IT.

Glock 36 or xds 45 two best single stack 45 carry options on the market other then the 1911 mentioned above.

I've owned several Les Baer 1911's that have been nothing less than reliable. In one of my stupid moments, I sold my SRP here on the forum. Looking at new ones right now. I currently carry a Premier II.

USAF385 I like kahrs and carry them but as a primary CC the CM PM series is a rather small handful . Heavy recoil springs too make quick slide function under stress more than a bit tougher than with a 4" commander or m&p . Try it first even on a 9mm or 40 version .

You mentioned the XDs. Guess that would be the 3.3" barrel version ??

You may want to compare it to a CW or P45 kahr . Same length as the XDs 3.3 and with the plastic mag base its .30 taller . Change to a metal mag base and its very close to same height and still has the lower bore height compared to a XD. Kahrs can use 1911 mags . Some as they are , some with a little un-needed metal removed .

I have not been on this forum for ever, it seems like, but I want to chime in on this one.
I have a S&W Scandium frame 1911 that I bought @ 2001 and it is a dream to shoot and carry...8 round Wilson Mags, of course...then my "winter carry gun" is my 1994 model Sig 220, 8 round mags...and lastly, my Kahr CW 45, which as Badge 130 above stated about his P45, is a sweet shooter and an easy carry gun! My other guns are either CZs or my Browning Hi Power, but none are, of course, .45. I help my friend out in his gun shop and our favorite rant is, "If the gun feels good in your hand, you will shoot well with it at the range and it you shoot well with it at the range, should you need it in a defensive situation, you will have confidence in your gun and your skills, so always make sure the gun fits you well.

The XDS will do everything the 1911 will do and there's no silly safety to worry about. It's lighter, thinner, has the same size grip when loaded with 8 rounds, and costs less.

My favorite is the Colt Commander. A very impressive and accurate concealed carry gun. However, on hot humid days I do have something much lighter and smaller.

My Daily Carry gun is a Kimber Ultra carry II in a Panther Concealment Carbon Fiber, or my S&W Mod 38 J-Frame in a Muzzleblast Leather holster.

I bet a whole lot of people who talk up the 1911 on the internet also own S&W J-Frames that they actually throw in a pocket for normal daily carry.

Nope. I want a gun I can fight with in just about any scenario. That is never a 5shot anything.
