What should I expect to pay for range/target ammo? I plan to line up in AM @ Big 5.....

Personally I would not pay more than .40 cents a round right now, but seems as though the normal rate (these days) is .50 a round...anything more than that I would move on

I bought a box of Winchester white box of 100 rounds for $44.00 today at Academy. About three months ago I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time and got a 250 round box of UMC at Walmart for $99.99. All the components for ammo, copper, brass, primers and powder keep going up.

Locally, when it's available I have not seen a box of 50 FMJ .45 Auto ammo for less than $32. The better names are ~$40/50 rounds. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!

Amazingly enough, at the local Walmart last week there were 100 round boxes of Federal 115gr FMJ 9mm ammo for $21/box. In the grand scheme $10.50/50 rounds of 9mm isn't all that bad, is it? Mow if they would put out 100 round boxes of Federal 230gr FNJ .45 Auto ammo for like $30/box I would be happy. ($15/50 rounds)

What you should expect to pay and what you will pay are two different things. My brains price recognition is stuck in the 70's and everything else looks too high. Oh well... a few months ago (maybe 6, in geologic time) I paid $30 for a box of 50 Federal HST 45acp and $23 for the same in 9mm. I have been shooting lead almost ever since.

I paid $107 for a 250rd box of UMC at Walmart yesterday. They had 3 of them. About 2 weeks ago I paid $22 for a 50rd WWB. The LGS had a 100rd box of winchester for 57.99...I passed on that one.

I just bought some Federal 100 round boxes at Wal-Mart for 31.99! I bought all 10 boxes!

In my area no store has any pistol ammo to speak of. However today I found three 50 rd. boxes of Rem. 130 gr. .38 Special... for $20.55/ea. A local gun shop has RWS and Geco .45 ACP 230 gr. FMJ ammo for $22/50 rds.

My last ammo can of 45 ACP with home-cast lead bullets was $38 per 1,000 rounds not counting electricity to melt lead or gasoline to drive to the range. You can save real $$$$$$$$$ casting bullets and reloading ammuniton. I don't have to stand in line at 7:00 AM either.

My powder was $22 / pound and primers were $21 / thousand. I shopped early.

0.50 a round is common where I live. I won't pay it however. Curtailed my shooting until the powder situation improves.

Just recently received a 100 round box from Palmetto State Armory. Federal American Eagle for $49.99 plus s&h. No real bargain there, but I was down to my last 100 rounds. Gee, now I have 200 rounds. Well, 200 rounds seems to go farther in a six shooter.

I roll my own,reload my 230 grain hardcast lead gas checked loads.

probably around $.38 is the best you'll find, or if you reload, were talking about .18!

The prices above are actually not so bad, but my suggestion would be that if you intend on shooting a lot - get with a Dillon re-loading press.

Let's just say the average store bought Factory discount round costs .50 cents with tax inc. so that would be $25 bucks a box. Reloading them would bring that cost down to about $6.00 a box (assuming you have the empties to reload), and so you would save $14 per box. So if you spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 bucks on a Dillon SD-B and the accessories, you would break even after only 50 boxes (or 2500 rounds). If you shoot let's say 150 rounds per week you would pay for the equipment in 17 weeks. Anything after that is gravy, and my example is only counting a single caliber round to be re-loaded. The more you do the more you will vastly save.
