.45 Colt

I have been looking for a .45 revolver for awhile and I recently bid on, but not yet won a: S&W model 25-2 with a 5 inch barrel it is ser. number N7592xx Can any of you expert Gentlemen give me some info on it and how high should I go on my bidding? Thanks, Jack

The most accurate revolver I have owned was a 25-2. Is it 45 Colt or 45 acp? I had a 25-2 in 45 acp that was super accurate and a "Model of 1989" in 45 Colt which was "ok" regarding accuracy. I liked both and really regret getting rid of the 45 acp.

I load 45 auto rim for my revolvers==just needed a shell holder, since I also reload 45 acp. I still have a 1917 S & W and a 1917 Colt, so it's worthwhile to keep a couple of hundred around.

Price seems to be between $1000 and $1500 for a good 25-2.

Ps it is in very fine condition.

-2s are .45 ACP, -5s are .45 Colt. As far as I know Smith never cataloged a 5 inch barrel -2. Most were 6 1/2 and later ones were 6 inch barrels. It could be that someone measured the barrel from the frame rather than the cylinder, then it would measure 5 inches. They are all fun to shoot!
