I am looking at a 4505. It is in excellent shape with one magazine. No box. Seller is asking 1000. He replaced the original sights with new trijicon night sights and does not have the original sights. Is this still a good buy or how much is the value diminished due the the new sights?

If it were complete with box, papers, two magazines, original sights, etc, it would worth that, maybe more.

As it is, I wouldn't pay more than $500.00 because it's just a nice shooter grade gun.

A month ago one sold, (via buy now,) on GB for $999.99 + $25.00. It was fixed sight with one magazine, nothing else but in great condition.

In the last eight months they’ve sold for $850-$1,600 depending. Factory sights are still available. NOS front and back, (fixed,) are @ $50.00.

There were few made and they aren’t ever going to be made again.

Maybe you could make a lower offer?

Jim

Someone will likely pay that $1,000 price, but it does not have to be you or anyone here, I turned one down last week at Cabelas at $799. They are great guns, but I paid half that for the one that I have. Times have changed, but not by that much. I also like factory specifications.

Many early 2nd gens have the dovetailed rear site, while less functional they are much nicer asteticaly.
Personally prefer the older 59 and 39s looks.
I would not place any collectors premium on 2nd gens except the 539 and 639.
The big improvements came in the 3rd gens although I never cared for the Delrin monogrip.

Someone once pointed out that not everything rare is valuable. Some things are rare because no one wanted them when they were new.

The 4505 was a victim of the 4506 because LE agencies (the primary market for 3rd Gens) wanted stainless for durability reasons.

If a collector wants one to fill a niche then the collector likely wants one that is in ANIB condition with the box and everything that came with it.

I often cite the 457 Zander Special as an example of this. The SCSW says that these are worth a premium, but since the finish on the slide fades quickly if these guns are carried my thought is that the premium would apply to an ANIB example, not one that someone actually carried and shot.

I guess I’ll be the “odd man out”. If I wanted one because it was the seldom seen blued gun I might pay that. Collectibility doesn’t matter to me as I am a shooter. It would just depend on how bad I wanted it I guess.

This one has the features of the “-1” that I like and I see the sights as an upgrade.
