4506-1 Price check and Service.

Fighter62 check the label on the blue plastic box. I expect you will see "03" on the upper right side of the label near the "spec order".

This 03 indicates a 4506-1 produced after the official end of production. Likely as a special order for a law enforcement agency. Agencies could order the 4506-1 in 50 pistol increments up until late 2006 IIRC.

These 03 4506-1's are often referred to as 4506-3, even though the pistol itself is roll marked.....or sometimes laser etched in the very final 4506-1's, "4506-1". Hope this helps!

twomoons thanks for the kind words. :) I am no expert. I just report what works.....and doesn't work, for me. I mostly follow Fastbolt and CALREB around!! ;) If you are OK with the 1911 recoil, you should be fine with the 4506-1. Recoil being somewhat subjective, I find the recoil of the 4506-1 to be slightly less than that of my Colt and Kimber 1911's.

Those mags you described are what I use in my S&W 45's. The black follower being the latest.......and evidently last ones made. $25 to $35 is what I normally see the 4506 mags going for.

As far as which S&W 9mm is "closest" to the 4506........I'd have to say the 3906. All steel construction in a single stack 9mm. I enjoy my 3906 very much too. Best regards, 18DAI

Its to bad that S&W didn't carry the 3906 farther to where it would have had the rounded trigger guard instead of that ugly hooked one. Its one of the reasons I got a 909 an sent it off to S&W to have ambi safety levers installed.

The later ones have the black MIM trigger and hammer. Black trigger and hammer always have the 10mm frame style. The early ones have the stepped frames.

Mine has a black trigger and hammer. I called S&W. They said it was made in 1995. Shot it this morning. VERY accurate, 100% function with several brands of JHP ammo. Mild recoil.
