4506-1 (R4) "dash 3"

The last 4506 I purchased came from a pawn shop. This was a late production model, 4-19-2001. Marked 4506 laser etched. It was shipped to LAPRAC, Los Angels Police Dept. Serial VJC 01XX. This gun has an interesting history. I was told that it was used in a shooting and the officer was fired. He pawned the gun and was eventually cleared and got his job back. He never went back for the gun. I know many LAPD officers and I had the original officers name ,I talked to numerous current officers and nobody knew this guy. The gun is marked 4506 (no -1) I do not have original box.

4506 dash? No Dash?

A recent thread on another site about 4506s and a link to this thread led me back here, so I figured I would post here. Fortunately a poster educated me about some of the finer details of the 4506 I have. It sounds like the info 18DAI posed above relates to the 4506 I acquired. Here she is:

I had assumed it was a N0-Dash, due to the pistol simply being marked 4506, as shown.

However I was advised that was not correct.

It is a decocker version.

But the hammer did have me confused..

Nice set of 45s you have there T. McIntyre. Thanks for sharing them with us! :)

The EKZ serial prefix was one of the very last used on the 4506 "dash 3" models. Regards 18DAI

New In Box 4506-1 :)

So here is the REALLY cool part. At least to me. I have not been this excited about a gun purchase in a while.

Today I found an unfired 4506-1.

Not cheap, but how often do you find one?

I have never actually seen one.

I will just post this.

I should probably post a separate thread about it, so as not to detract from this very cool thread.

My apologies forum friends and 18DAI for posting in a thread that has been "resting" for a bit. Seemed like the best place to ask this question...
I purchased this 4506-1 thru a private transaction several years ago. Seller stated that it was his late Father's pistol and that he was retired LEO in southern AZ.
So here are some photos of the pistol and box label, my apologies for my terrible pitcher takin... best I could do...
Is this a "Dash 3" Rev4"?

With the recent new 4506 threads and friends of mine looking for one I did some searching and found this thread. I remember reading it over a year ago and was curious as to what exact revision my 4506 is.

From reading what markings make a dash-3 I believe mine is one of the later ones. These pics were taken by the gent I bought it from. I love the fit and finish of it and how smooth the trigger is. I'm amazed how accurate it is, it makes me look very good at the range!

Thank you 18DAI, from the fantastic information that you've shared I figured it was a later production model. After reading on the first page that Robertson Trading Post sold many 4506's with the same serial number prefix I wonder if mine came from there.

It's possible someone here in Canada bought it from them and had it imported. If it is ex law enforcement it sure wasn't used very much. The person I bought it from said the previous owner shot it very little and he had only fired 150 rounds.

I received it with one magazine, an extra recoil spring and three magazine springs. I do wish I had the case for it but oh well. It's definitely a favorite of mine and one I won't sell.

Hi mirroir,

Funny you mention the thing with the barrel. My VJP prefix 4506 dash 3 is the same way. The barrel is harder to get in and out of the slide than my PC 45 CQB is with its Briley bushing.

Mine is a tack driver as well. My friend has a Les Baer 1911. I shot tiny groups - just as tiny as his - with my substantially less expensive 4506 dash 3. So did he! He looked a little green and sickly when he found out it was a standard production pistol and I had less than $600 in it. ;)

TDM is 1999. My duty 4566 is a TDM prefix. Regards 18DAI

Man, I’d love to find a 4506 with a VJP prefix serial number!

My 4506-1

I just acquired one vbf3994
It looks new in the box, but the owner said he fired it,
Very stiff action , looks like all the original paper work is there, box has some wear
Anyone estimate its vallue??
It has adjustable sights that appear to be night sights

Thanks

Congrats jvmm! the 4506-1s with adjustable night sights are scarce.

Locally, during normal times, that would be a $650 to $725 pistol. If it had mags, box ect.

A quick perusal of the big auction board shows nice 4506-1s BRINGING $1K+. Strange times. Enjoy that fine 45! :) Regards 18DAI

I doubt that I have the rare sub-type, but to me the 4506 is the finest production 45ACP handgun made. This one is ex-Fresno Sheriff's office. Very interesting post!

I also have an ex-Fresno SO 4506-1 (SN# VZE50xx) and I do believe that these pistols are "dash 3" guns... is yours the same SN Prefix?

Is mine a 4506-1 (R4) "dash 3” ?

Howdy boys!

Is mine a 4506-1 (R4) "dash 3” ?

Thank you.

Kind regards.

Yes! And not only is it a "dash 3", from the box it appears it is one of the original batch, released by Lew Horton after the official end of production.

This is the batch that members 45CQB and wolfy brought to our attention, telling us how good the triggers were and that they were unusually accurate. Extremely accurate.

That started the ball rolling back then as members here sought them out and bought them up.

I look forward to hearing your impressions of that fine 45! Congrats! :) Regards 18DAI
