3rd gen dreams do come true.

I finally had the opportunity to grab one of my 3rd gen "grail guns"... the top choice of movie tough guys since (at least) the early 2000s... the infamous 4506-1.

I've had it for a few months now and I've put a couple hundred rounds through it. Long story short: It's awesome.

100% reliability (which I know is no surprise) and excellent shootability/accuracy. I've had a 645 for years (up until recently). Solid gun. Always reliable and always comfortable on the range. But, for whatever reason, my connection with the 4506-1 was immediate.

For me, it seemed easier to keep on target than the 645 and handled the big, hefty shove of the .45 ACP gracefully and comfortably. Honestly, I'm digging the -1 more than my P220 at this point.

I rescued my 4506-1 from Sportsman's Warehouse in Summer 2021 and am so glad I did. I agree....it's an awesome gun and very accurate. Gobbles everything I have fed it with no problems.

Nice! I regret not grabbing that one... but it was around $600 when I was looking at it. I know you said you got it for quite a bit less. Great deal.

But yeah--I love the gun. I think it's gonna be my go-to .45.

I have it's smaller cousin, the 4516-1, great shooter.

I also have its newer sibling, the 4566TSW WVPSC. Awesome.

Congrats on yours.

Thank you, sir! Man, I'd love to have one of the WVPSC 4566TSWs. Really, I'd love to have... or even see... a melonite 3rd gen of any kind.

There was a 5906 "Modelo Militar" for sale on GB not long ago--melonite finish. Really a neat gun. It went for far more than I'm willing to spend. But... still just neat to think they produced 3rd gens with melonite.

the link to the thread, mine is on there.

Thanks for all the love, everyone. Really appreciate it.

Apparently you're not allowed to post links to personal blogs, etc. on this forum. So, the link got taken down. My apologies. Guess it pays to read the rules. I guess it’s kind of a fine line between shameless self promotion and wanting to share content with the audience you think will enjoy it.

In any case...

There's certainly nothing stopping any of us from continuing to extol the virtues of the 4506-1 on this thread.

As far as carry...

I have a Ted Blocker (Lifeline?) shoulder holster for mine. I think was actually for a 645. But it fits just fine. And looks baddass...

What a pleasure it is to read/think/or talk about legendary 4506! I'm so glad that I discovered them and picked up a "no-dash" model in great shape but without papers or a box some 20+ years ago. Since then I've stocked up on mags, springs and ammo and shoot that pistol every chance that I get to. It's not like it'll wear out...

Thanks for the review, and the pics. The 4506's reliability, and extremely good looks make it a must-have for many. Finding any model# Gen 3 in very good condition at the LGS, pawn shops, or gun shows is not so easy these days. I'm glad you found and use yours. It was built to be shot. Sadly, production of stainless Gen 3s is long over with.
My 'transition' 4506 (top) and 1006 were purchased at gun and pawn stores in 2015 and 2020...the 4506 was a lucky find even back then.
