I recently had BMCM install a set of adjustable trijicon night sights on my 4506. I finally got chance to shoot it today. I found the accuracy at 15 yards and up to be pretty good. But at 25 yards from a rest I couldn't get a group smaller than 10-12 inches. My normal groups with my glocks, sigs, 22 pistols, etc are about a softball to a tennis ball size. My ruger single nine is super accurate. Anyway, what kind of groups should I expect at 25 yards? The gun shoots well, i tried 3 different brands of ammo (all 230 grain.) They all seemed comparable on group size.

Are you following proper technique such as slow steady squeeze, breath control and proper sight picture and alignment? Ive managed a 9in group at 25 yards freehand with my handloads.

Single action. Yes, I'm using my training to shoot. Front sight, breathing, trigger control, holding my tounge correctly, all that good stuff. I'm going to buy another barrel and see what happens. If anything, I'l have a spare barrel .

My 4506 and 457 have been sitting in the back corner of my safe due to not being able to group at 25 yards for me, even with Atlanta Arms 185 JHP target ammunition that I use in Bullseye competition at 25 and 50 yards. Not sure if it is due to poor fit with the thin grips or the SA trigger being so far back in the frame. I should also go back and inspect the barrel crowns when I have some time.

In six years of competition I have only seen S&W 22s and 38 specials used in Bullseye, never any 45s. With the change in Service Pistol rules I had hoped the 4506 would show some potential.

I had bought a wide hood barrel, and had a competent gunsmith fit it to my 4506-1. I also had him install millet adj sights. My 9in paper plate group came from using 185gr plated bullets.

I have, had or been issued eight different examples of 4506-1. I've never had an "inaccurate" one. Even with cheap ammo.

Any 4506-1 should be capable of 4 inches at 25 yards. Especially from a rest.

Is the barrel fouled? Leaded or heavy copper residue? Regards 18DAI

Almost every 4506 I shot, and as an instructor I tested and shot a lot, would hold 3 inches with Winchester white box and 2 or less with good ammo.

Could it be the sight picture with the Trijicon sights not allowing you to get a good sight picture at 25 yards? Have you tried different ammo? The Models 645 and 4506 generally seem to fall in the range of 3-6 inch groups at 25 yards.
