I have a 4506 i bought 20 years ago and am going to get it tuned up with all new springs

My question is my model has the adjustable rear sights and trying to find good night sights to fit is almost unbearable and i need some help. It has the basic Trijicon night sights but my old peepers dont really like em compared to the XS big dots.

Trijicon has the SA-02 sights but i have had those twice and dont really like em.

The other question is Trijcon has the new HD night sights and i really want the front sight as it's easier to see. if i get just the front HD sight can i use the rear SA-02 and will everything line up.

I have been using the XS big dot sights on my glocks and love them but XS doesnt appear to make them for the 4506. I have an email into them for suggestions.

You indicated the 4506 has Trijicon adjustable sights. Were these factory original? Factory adjustable night sights on 4506 aren't seen too often.

You can send the slide to Trijicon and they will re-lamp them for around $70 . . . I believe they even pay for the shipping back to you.

Here is the factory original rear sight on my 4506-1 made in 1997. I obtained a factory letter (see photo, below) on the pistol indicating it's a "Special Order Los Angeles Police" and was shipped to the "Pistol and Revolver Club" (actually it's called the Revolver and Athletic Club) at the LAPD Academy. It's the only 3rd generation that I've run across with factory original adjustable night sights. ;)

Thanks, I have to look at the gun and maybe take a photo but when i said adjustable all i really remember is it has the shrouded rear site and i could not put Novaks on there. I did replace the sights with a local gunsmith once with Trijicons after the first set burned out. I was just wondering if there are other options for gun sights for the 4506.

XS Sights is working on a solution for me as i really want the Big Dot sights, i have these on two of my Glocks and they really help my old eyes and my shooting scores went up drastically.

The 4506 adjustable sights i have according to S&W and the forums here use a rear sight from their K/L/N models. XS sells a rear adjustable sight for the 686 that might just work. The trick is will it line up with the big dot front sight purchased seperately that they sell for the 4506. i will keep you guys posted when i hear back from them, they are all at the shot show. otherwise if that doesn't work i will have to go with the Trijicon SA-02

XS Big Dot Sights Available for 4506 Adjustable Models

Received my sights from XS today. They make the XS Big Dot sights for all you 4506 owners with the adjustable rear sights but they do not list it on their web site or catalog. A simple call to them and you can place your order costs about 100 bucks.

The rear sight is a painted white vertical line not tritium since the rear sight is too thin for a tritium insert. The kit even includes a new set screw.

Bo at XS sights was Awesome to work with. Thank goodness i dont have to go the trijicon route as my older eyes dont shoot good with em.

The problem with the express sights we discovered, when one unit tried them was they are great for close up quick sight acquisition ? but most shooters found it much harder to maintain accuracy at 20-25 yards .As far as the night sights on the Factory LAPD revolver club order, the club was advised to order the guns with night sights,so the armory wouldnt have to put them on at a later time at additional cost to the officer,(was cheaper from S/W)also individual officers placed their order with LAPRAAC (most never ordered night sights especially adj ones) and when they got the list to 25 or 50 whatever the number S/W had to have to do a run and then the gus were ordered as the officers had ordered them. Its not hard to have the adj sights changed to night sights, same as changing the rear sight blade on a S/W revolver.Bob

I just emailed Bo at XS Sights. He is out of the office till Monday. I'll let you know what I find out
