4506

Opinions on the 4506. I looking at buying one. I think I can get it for about $380. I don't own a 45 and I think this would be afordable way of owning one.

I've wanted one since the first time I held one of those big beasts in my hand.

At $380 I would NOT have left the shop. Last one I saw was $1000.

Thanks for all your help. I picked it up today. It was $399 but they threw in a extra mAg and a rug. Now I am going to try and find taer down instructions and a 10 rond mag. The side says HPD 505. I was told it came from Houston Police Department.

Meh. Cop gun. Probly has lots of shiny spots from being carried & probly has <1000 rds through it.

Give ya $450... :D

If memory serves me correctly, I think I paid $509 for mine back in mid 1990...haven't regretted a cent I spent back then. I'm just sorry of the demise of the 3rd gen Smith's-some of the best they ever made.

I purchased my 4506 when they first come out and I have had no problems with it at all. It is the most reliable automatic I have ever shot. It is large but shoots great...

I cleaned it up and put new grips on it. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture I will.

Here it is. Have not shot it yet. Cant wait.

Hey Nun, in case you didn't otherwise know, that is the
later model heavy duty 4506-1 model. I only mention
it because you never made the distinction in your previous
posts.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I can't wait to shoot it.

The trigger guard on mine is squared and I wish it had the Novak rear sight but no matter-they're all great shooters and none more reliable.

A buffing wheel and polishing compound can make the whole
slide shiny and hide the polished corners created when
the holster has rubbed inside a leather holster for years.

I guess I like the matt finish of the new stainless guns
but after the corners get polished by the holsters I think
it would be a better idea for the whole gun to be polished
instead of sandblasted to the matt finish.

i paid $400 for mine used,,it has been absolutly 100% reliable. i even loaded a mag with empty casings to see if it would jam,,,it ejected them all! i carry it in the winter months, its a tad to big to canceal in the summer months,so it spends the summer in my truck,,, i would buy another in a heart beat!

One thing I've noted most 4506-1's I see have a black trigger, not many with a silver one,the one I got today, and posted in the 4506 thread, has the silver trigger.

and it is an ex police gun,no Dept name but it has an extra number above the trigger on the right side, plus it has quite a few "bright spots" so it's been in and out of a holster a lot.

Nice pistol,nun :D

Finally got to shoot it. Wow what a great gun. I went there thinking "don't let these guys get your expectations up too high". First shot at 10 yds bullseye. Thanks for the advice everyone.

One thing I noticed. When squeezing the trigger it clicks just before it fires. 2 stage trigger?

An excellent full size 45. I took my brother shooting for the first time and he preferrede the 4506 over the Model 28, 22A and several 9mm S&Ws. It is my "1911".

Ordered trigger spring and revit today. Anyone ever done it?

Go to amazon and get "The Gun Digest Guide of firearms assembly/disassembly" by J. B. Wood. The newest revision for semi autos has nearly all modern pistols including 3rd gens and the M&P. It has been a lifesaver for me up here in Canada where it is difficult to get any non-agency armourers. I restored a 4505 that was lacking a few pieces using this book.

Slanto3000 I ordered that book yesterday . My dad took it out to the range today. I know he be wanting one after he shoots it.

Hi,Steve here. I own a 4506. And it is the toughest 45 i have ever shot. Seems like you can put any thing through it.
