I need some info on the 4513TSW. This one has the 45 billboard and the rail. Neither of which concern me.

I have been looking for one of these for a while now. I finally found one and have some questions.

What I need to know is,

Are these the traditional DA/SA or does it need to be carried cocked with safety on?
Price range... this one looks like it was fired very little. There is no soot on the mag follower. I believe two mags and the box.
What are my NON rail laser options?
Should I choose to change grips, what options do I have?
What other options do I have for this vintage?
Any idea when the 4513 railed TSW was introduced?

Thanks

they are sa/da, you can carry it cocked but their safety/decocker will make the hammer fall and cover the firing pin.

i think i paid in the 700 range nib back then.

not sure when they first came out but i bought mine in about 2003.

The rail variant came out around 2001-2002.

Locally, they run $575 to $650, depending on box docs and condition.

Couldn't tell you anything concerning lasers as I have no use for them.

Great compact 45. Even better with the rail taken off, for me. Regards 18DAI.

Good to know its the traditional SA/DA

The rail doesnt bother me at this point as I make my own holsters.

This one is priced lower then what you guys are saying. I may just have to pick this one up.

4513tsw

Check to see what type of magazine it takes: 6 round or 7.

There are a few pre-rail full grip 7 rounders out there but more are the 6 round.

Of course, it's not true without photos so.... (just for my forum friends that hate seeing my 4513 :D )

I did not know that. thanks for that lill tid bit..

and I too hate your 4513,,,,,, (only cuz its not in MY safe)

If its in your opinion the gun has been fired very little, check the strength of the recoil spring and also the pressure of the magazine spring. Simply cycle the slide as usual and try to load a full clip by hand or of course just use a pencil to push down the mag spring. They are REALLY stout. The strength of these tell me I need to change the ones in my 4516-1.
Also give up 20 bucks and try the Houge grips for the 4516. Makes a huge difference to me anyway, on recoil and muzzle flip.
As yet have found No laser for a 4513. I believe Crimson trace makes one for the 3913. Your best bet would be to ask a gunsmith if adapting a CT to your Hogue grips is possible. I'm gonna ask mine but doubt if I will do it. Accuracy with this 4513 under 25 feet, and a .45 caliber I just don't need it.
If you can get your 4513 for under 600 you ought to jump on it. You can ALWAYS trade it later for (2) PLASTIC GUNS OR 1 PLUS cash.
Besides if you don't buy it I will. Prices are going thru the roof on these of late from what I've seen.

I really like this one because the mag is notched in the grip,

and the one with the rail is not. But at about a hundred bucks difference I can live with it...

Another question,
Did they ever make a mag with the proper extension so that the mag sits flat against the bottom of the grip??

how is it a TSW? i thought the rail was the whole reason for the TSW designation.

The rail free, short grip frame 4513TSW was only produced for a very short time. While it lacks the rail under the dustcover (more desireable, for me) it shares the full length frame rails, dual recoil spring set-up, and larger barrel hood of the later TSW series pistols, including the later 7-round 4513TSW.

I have one of these early 4513TSW's and it has replaced my 3913 as my off duty - summertime pistol.

Laddy Smith - You should really sell me that 4513, you know, so it will get excercised more often! ;) Regards 18DAI.

My Pre-Rail TSW has the same magwell cutout. I like it much better than the standard length grip.

I just got home. and yes I bought it. Didnt get to the range yet as they wanted full price for it,,, no haggling on it at all. BUT I did get a plastic paddle lefty holster, (im a lefty) two mags, blue case, a couple cable locks, orange plug, papers and the test fire case. all for ..................................

Are ya sittin down??

Ya better sit down......

$499.95 +tax...

Honestly I doubt if this thing has 50 rounds down it... its nearly new.. had it been in a leather holster, there wouldnt be a scratch on it. (ill get pics later)

Am I the only one that thinks I stole it???
I know the 4516's (16, -1, -2, -3) go for $600 +

Sure you did...

"I just got home. and yes I bought it."

It's not true without pics....until then you are just dreamin'! :p

Xmas came early this year for you. I have a 4513 and since you are a
" lefty" would appreciate step by step instructions if you change the mag release to the "other" side.
Also if you ever feel guilty for what you paid for it I'll be more than willing to buy it from you. These beat Plastic regardless on the price plastic is. These are hard to find in LNIB.

I'd be ashamed to mention that price, you could have told us you paid $800 for it and we all would have felt sorry for you. You got yourself a super deal.

These scratches I believe were a result of the plastic holster.. Im gonna use it till I can make one myself.

Punisher you and I think alike! First we both bought 4013TSW's. I just bought a Lnib 4566TSW with original box and paperwork. Then you go and buy a 4513TSW! So I gotta ask what Smith are we buying next? Lol

I'm not sure... I havent given it any thought.

I thinking maybe a chiefs special. Don't know which caliber though.

Sweet 4513TSW Punisher102, congrats!

Thats my favorite setup for a .45. I need to find one without the rail. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI.

There's a beautiful 4553tsw pre rail on gunbroker right now for $425. It has the same short grip. If I hadn't just bought another 3913 I'd be all over it. If you search for it you have to put 4553tsw (no space) or it won't come up.

That's not good...

Send me a PM if you want to sell.

I am hoping to beat 18DAI to the punch :D

Honestly I dont think either of you could afford it... Remember, I stole it.... selling would increase the price quite a bit.... BUT I do like the prerail thats on GB right now....

Ohh I just re-read the notes on the TSW series.... apparently the mag release swap is only possible with the double stack frames... The 4513 is a single stack...

For reference, I saw a 4566TSW yesterday at a gun show that the dealer was asking $675.00 + Tax, NIB.

Claimed to be new old stock, never out of FFL inventory.

Had I not just bought a 5906, I might have tried to haggle. Anyone think this is a good price? I am fairly sure I remember the dealer having the same gun at the last show at this location, so I guess it was not jumping off the shelf at that price.
