4516-2 Grip Options

Hey all. I just scored a 4516-2 that's in great condition, however, the Hogue grips on it are a little tacky. I'd actually like to get the original factory grips, however, that's proving difficult. The only thing I can find is OEM grips for the 4516, which, have the screws in a different place then the 4516-2. I know Hogue still makes grips, but I'd like to try and get the originals. I'm not a huge fan of rubber grips, and I don't want to spend $100s on the custom wooden grips I'm finding. Can anyone advise? Do both models interchange?

There are no screws in the factory grips. The screw in the Hogue is screwed into the little stir up that holds the hammer spring. You just need a factory grip. The pin that the factory grip needs should be holding the stir up into the frame. Just take it out. Watch a few YouTube videos on putting the grips on. Gotta watch out for the side plate as you slide the grip up or you could bend it. Brownells has the grip you need. I’m not aware of any changes to the grips from the dash numbers.

Here’s a great video from a series on totally disassembling and reassembling the frame of a third gen gun. Fast forward to 13 minutes and you’ll see how to put the factory grip on. Just watch when you slide the grip up that you
don't slip the grip under that side plate and then bend it as you slide it up.

I understand your desire to find original grips.

When I buy a used pistol with any kind of synthetic grips, they get cleaned in dish soap and warm water as part of the overall inspect/clean/lube. Sometimes it makes a big difference when the grips are actually clean.

Of course, they must be 100% dry before reinstallation. YMMV
