4553 TSW trigger pull question

I have a 4553 TSW that I bought used five years ago. It’s a great pistol in excellent condition. The trigger pull is very smooth and light and the hammer breaks sharp and clean at the end of the pull.

I was shooting today with a friend and I let him shoot the TSW. He remarked that the trigger pull weight seemed way too light for a DAO S&W.

I don’t know if he is correct or not. This is the only DAO S&W that I own.

When I got back to the house, I checked the pull with a trigger scale and it’s 4.5 lbs. I don’t know what the factory specs are and can’t seem to find that information on the web.

This has got me wondering, if the trigger pull is not in factory spec then what could have been done to get the reduced weight; different springs or something altered internally?

Wow! 4.5 lbs is very light for a DAO 3rd gen. Someone has changed out the hammer spring and trigger spring for sure and maybe a little bit of gunsmithing on the internals. That trigger should weigh-in at about 10 to 11 lbs in stock form. Have you experienced any light primer strikes?

I haven't experienced any light strikes but then I don't shoot the pistol too often.

Yeah, 4-1/2# is light for a DAO trigger. That's what the single action pull of a typical TDA trigger is. That's awesome, if it's reliable & dependable.

If it's reliable, I would leave it as-is.
