4596? Typo?

Good morning Forum,

I wanted to ask the Smith & Wesson gun-body extraordinaire if they've every heard of a 4596. There's one out there with high flash pictures that hide the model designation. Any ideas? It's claimed to be "very rare"... What 3rd gen isn't, right?

SCSW-4th edition says the 4596 is a 4506-1 frame with a 4516-1 slide, special made for Lew Horton. Values in the book range from $1000 ANIB to $600 VG condition. Bear in mind that this catalog was published in 2016 and real-life prices have exploded since then. It also says it is a scarce gun, values were a guess at the time. Only 382 made in 1990.

Nice find! I had a 4596 at one time. There were approximately 457 produced. If you don’t purchase it, let me know where it is plz!

I sold a new in box (unfired outside the factory) 4596 on the big auction site a few months ago. It brought a little over $1,100 - a lot less than I thought it would bring. The used and less scarce 4576 I sold at the same time brought a higher price - $1,250 if I remember correctly. Another example that “rarity” doesn’t always translate to high dollar value.
